ALSO would it be wurth trying to pick up where i left off or could it be more wurth it to begin anew?

Head over to the mission forum, and see how the ai has changed! If you dont want to, yes, it has changed, for better or worse? Well...
The UI looks nice and clean, and a break from the squares. You Have a visual representation around ships that are also within locking range.
There is a built in tracking camera which personally i LOVE. Set it where to track when you have a target selected and it gives a whole new look on space.
The changes to bounty and kill rights has really made a difference. Just read the other forums and see how people are utilizing this.

It seems CCP are really getting into the updates lately, and the alst two expansions have been really good imo. I havent seen such a big change in eve, ever, and retribution has really made things different, and as always, its what you make of it...

As for starting a new or picking up where you left off. I guess it depends on your skill points. Could you train more skill points in 44 days than what you currently have? You can buy eve on steam for 3 pounds at the moment, so with trial and 30 days.

UI is ok, CCP is pretty good at getting the bugs fixed, and the ship balance is such that if you're a newbie using T1 frigate, destroyer, or cruiser, each race has its own line of ships that can definitely stand up 1v1 against any other race's equivalent.

The AI is pretty tough, ATM; they changed the AI without changing the mission scripts to compensate, and as a result we'll probably see a sharp decline in the combat mission grind. Which serves the purpose of curbing the ISK influx that the economy currently has. Somewhat.

They are not done with the ship balances yet. It'll probably be a while before they get to the bigger ships and then to T2 ships.

What's your definition of worth it?

If you're a newbie interested in the game, starting a character now is definitely recommended; the improvements and the re-balanced ships should make the newbie game more fun. On the other hand, if you're sitting on 100M skillpoints, the high level activities (large fleet PVP, nullsec play, tech 2, tech 3 ships, capitals, supercaps), those are mostly the same as the last few months / year. A newbie starting now, though, could probably reach each new feature just as CCP improves it; you get enough skills trained to fly battleships just as CCP rebalances them, then you get enough for T2 ships just as CCP rebalances them, and so on.

I recently returned to 'active' (about a month now or so) in EVE and have totally found it worthwhile. But, to address the question of sameness - it is, essentially, the exact same game as before. There is some neat new stuff for sure but the idea and concept of the game remains the same.

So, it really depends on what you'd want to be doing. If you are getting the urge to play and to try stuff out - then resub and do it! Go do something you've never done before and take lots of risks. The more risks you take the more fun it will be since you've played it before ;) Just don't lose everything at once.

I would keep your existing character. There's no reason to start fresh unless you -really- want a new character name or the old one has bad memories or something but, the way I figured it is this, if you had skilled up any skills that you'd be using again then... why spend the time to skill them up again?

Just -start- fresh. You could run the tutorials in a frigate and just start again. If you want to do the 0.0 thing then pursue it. If you want to do whatever.. go and do it.

At the end of the day, is it worthwhile? That'll be up to you but, for me, it really is a lot of fun being back into the EVE universe. My play times have changed, my play style has changed (I have less time), but it is a ton of fun. There is still so much of the game that I haven't tried out that it remains fresh and exciting. But, if I were to fall into a 'routine' of mindlessly doing whatever activity (like grinding missions or ratting or whatever) then my interest would fade.. conversely, that'd be my fault and not CCP's.

This is the joy of a sandbox. EVE is still very sandboxy.

Well we can't really tell you if you will like the changes....Same counts for first reply poster...

But yes. CCP changed a lot in the game, changed NPC AI, changed the UI, changed and added ships (the amount added depends on the length of your break).

So you can always try the game again (be it with a trial account or with your normal account for 1 month).

If you were away for a good amount of time, I do suggest to make an alt and redo the tutorials (they have improved those too). This will get you back in the game and will dust off those skills you already have.
If you want after that you can just use your old character, as you already spent some skilling time in him.

Re-doing the tutorials is a good plan.

I'd recommend using your old character, as there will be a chunk of useful skill points, and probably a nice block of learning skill refund.

Its also easier to get a long-term returnee into a lot of corps - paranoid types arent as worried about people who remember the Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate, and remember Mercenary Coalition as hardcore, as they are about 2 month old toons.

I think it depends on how long you've been gone for. For me, returning after 6 years, the game has changed a lot for the better. Tier 2 is now more open to being produced by everyone. Tier 3/rig production use different "sources" than T2. PvP isn't purely a big corp 0.0 affair anymore. You can FW it up, there's w-space and CCP is moving towards bounties and player policing as a profession.

And speaking of w-space, there's now a place smaller corps and indies can exist in null space without being stomped by huge alliances. For PvE there's a lot more variety in the game now too.

To me the game today feels like it has a lot more diversity and is much more open to different styles of play. The game feels like there's more content for the different styles of play and you're not forced down any single road of "proper play" for the end game.
