Extra Material?

Been away from Eve for a bit and trying to understand Extra Material.

From what I read it looks like the waste from not having a fully researched BPO. I've got a cruiser BPO which is researched to level 12 in ME. According to my numbers from a couple years back I should have about 10% waste. However what I'm seeing is Extra Material that almost exceeds Raw Materials.

On the other hand my BPOs researched to 20+ show no Extra Material.

What am I missing?

With retribution and the cruiser rebalance, some cruisers now require more materials to produce from their original numbers. This increase has been added as extra material; (a cruiser that was 6mil. isk in minerals to make would go up to 12mil. now)

So reprocessing a cruiser that was build before Retribution today will not magically produce more minerals than it initially took to fabricate.

So I just need to add in the extra material to the cost of these particular blueprints? Ok, can do...

Just keep in mind that if you are manufacturing an item that has recently been change (such as mining barges) that had the extra materials added to them, you will most likely not be able to manufacture them at a profit as people pre-build tousands (tens of thousands for barges) in hopes of making isk from building pre-patch.

So just double check that it is still profitable to manufacture before hand (if you'ure manufacturing to make a profit).

Does the Material Level still reduce the waste for Extra Materials? Is there even waste for Extra Materials?

And has CCP ever gone and shifted Extra Materials back into the normal bill-of-materials?

Something else is that when you go to reprocess anything that has an extra mineral requirement you do NOT get the extra minerals back after the reprocess.

So this causes a wide range of sale prices for these items.

The cost to build being X and the reprocess value being Y and which Y value can be as much as 70% less than the cost to build value of X. So the price of these ships do have a floor the repo value which again can be 70% less than the cost to build them.

It makes building these at a profit after an update like this almost impossible as most have spec built thousands of these at the pre update price which would be the Y value from the above statement. So they can sell at any price above Y and make a profit while a new builder has a cost of the X value to build them now after the update. In other words they can always under cut your price and still make a profit while you can not do anything about it without lossing isk.

Basically you have to watch the prices of any of these items with extra minerals. Wait until the prepatch volume gets depleted. Which you can tell by the pricing of the items. When they begin to sell at a price you can make a profit on then get in that particular market. But that could be 6 months or more before that happens.

I doubt CCP will change the idea behind the extra minerals before that prepatch volume gets used up, because the reason they did it in the first palce was to keep players from making a mineral profit off the rebalance of these items. IE a player before patch makes 1000 items and repos them after the patch for all of those extra free minerals. To keep that from happening the idea of the extra minerals was invented as part of the BPO for the update.

No, ME levels do not effect Extra Materials. Just look at any of the POS modules where it has been effect for a long time.
No, there is no waste which you can remove
Not that i am aware of, No.

Nice and simple way to see the two sets or materials separately. and how ME/PE affect them

ME waste only ever applies to base materials
Waste due to Production Efficiency applies to:
1: All base materials
2: Extra materials which also appear in the base materials
