Similar to the proposal in my signature, we need something to view live events. Basically, just like the client, the server sends position data etc. to a client, but it is a viewer and not an actual EVE Client. This would allow people to view said live events in a browser, while using much less bandwidth than a video stream.

Also the proposal in my signature is a cool idea too.

It's a concept worth considering, but I think a recorder would be easier to program, than a system that "transmits" what a player sees to another player in real-time.

With a recorder, you are essentially recording positional data and action data to the disk, in a format that can be played back by a replay client. World of Tanks/World of Warplanes does this rather well.

The problem lies in the fact that WoT does session-based replay recording, while in EVE, you don't have sessions every 15 minutes. It's one continual session, and in quite a few cases, EVE's client is active for weeks.

To overcome this, one would need to have a "Record" button, and the replay that is saved, can be viewed in a client that is specifically tailored to displaying that replay file.

It is certainly an idea, and I remember talking with some of the folks at CCP about video editing capabilities - the video team already has the capability to script the spacecraft's movements themselves, but this is essentially "cutscene programming", not "replay programming". The level of complexity is the same, though.

Hello

I think that this idea might be better served in the Technologies forum as a solution to your need. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=270 Try posting here so the idea gets the "air" time it deserves..

Realistically would this just be accomplished (without taking the overhead of designing and coding and feature development and prioritisation and testing and all that good stuff that makes things take a long time) via us streaming the events?

Don't forget, I'm also a video editor. I've been wanting to do a video in EVE for some time, but because your video team has all the tools I want, I figure a "replay system" would be a better alternative to just streaming, as it would give players the option of assembling their own videos of actual combat in Tranquility.

Giant blob fleet? Hit "Record" and kick some ass (or get your ass kicked), then hit "Stop recording" when the fighting's over. Replay the file, set up your own cameras, etc...record with Fraps.

By all means stream the live events. That is a great short term solution.

The Replay feature would still be a nice Feature for players.

I have often found in the Tournaments that i would like to know what a ship that is not being looked at is doing.
For Eve Video Editors, this would allow "after the fact" focusing on different ships

I agree with ISD Flidais Asagiri that the Technology section of the forums would be a better location for this Idea.
