T3 Ship Questions

As it says on the tin, I have a question or two about T3 ships.

Are subsystems treated like rigs, as in are they destroyed on removal, or are they treated like normal modules and are replaceable?

If they are replaceable, what, if any, are the limitations on fitting?

Are there any other differences I should be aware about T3 ships?

Ultimately, I'd like to train for a Legion, so it would be nice to know the differences, hehehe

No, subsystems can be removed and replaced at will. So you can have 1 Legion but multiple subs in you hangar if you needed to change any out. The rigs however still are permanent. Difference between them, hmm well the Tengu is pretty much PVE king, even with the HML nerf, not much can match it. The Loki and Proteus are the premier PVP vessels, leaning a little towards the Proteus. The Legion falls somewhere in between PVE and PVP. It can do both well, but doesn't excel at either. It can effectively use either lasers or HAM launchers. Arguably, the best PVP T3 is a cloaky Proteus. Get in close, decloak, molest face, escape. Plus they can field MASSIVE armour buffers. Of course this removes and hopes of catching anything other than a planet (these fits are mostly meant for station games).

I wear my goggles at night.

Any spelling/grammatical errors come complimentary with my typing on a phone

Hmmm, that's food for thought. Thanks for the info Big smile

I'm going for the Legion purely because of the Amarr training I already have, but that certainly looks like a bit of cross training may be well worthwhile in the future.

Again, thanks for the info Big smile

Its also worth noting that when you lose a tech3 you also drop a whole lvl in its skill

FYI, the Legion is an amazing frigate & destroyer killer that the other T3 have a hard time matching. With its targeting subsystem, a pulse Legion can often lock and pop frigates before the others have finished locking.

It also makes a neat covert energy neut ship (Pilgrim is a lot less expensive though).

Really? That's a bit of a shocker! Shocked

Is that in the main ship skill? Conceivably you could loose all skills to fly it? (as in reduce a skill to zero)

No, when you lose a T III you randomly lose one level in one of the five subsystem skills. The ship skill itself is unaffected.

But in general I would advice you to try 'not dying' when flying a T III, unless you like a couple of days extra training time to get that subsystem skill back to V....Blink

All the subsystem skills are rank 1, meaning they take the least amount of time to train.

It takes roughly 3 days to recover level 5 in a subsystem skill.

To date I've lost level 4 Propulsion, which by pure luck, was the only subsystem I had at that level. Of course I've since trained them all to 5.

And this is just if you loose the ship? Not if you get podded?

No this is on destruction of the ship and even happens if your clone is up to date.

The lore behind it is that T3 are tightly coupled to the nervous system of the pilot, hence the increased performance, so tearing the capsule (pod) out of the hull upon ship destruction also damages the pilot (loss of one subsystem training level).

Well, I'm glad I asked then Lol

I'm still going to do this at some point though. I knew there would be downsides somewhere. There always are in Eve P
