A simple idea on how to "fix" Moon goo..

I know I'm going to be flamed at over this post...

Moon goo is a major problem, and all moon holding alliances say it takes so much to setup/defend etc etc etc...

I call BS on that one, as I've seen several (low end) tech moons in losec. And those have towers owned by big alliances. All they have is a tower, extractors and silos. That's it...!

So, an idea that popped into my head is to make them function just like PI does.

Just replace Custom Offices with the current tower system that's already in place.

Have the goo on the moons work just like PI materials on planets, thus making it active instead of a broken ATM spitting endless ISK.

Also...
In Empire Space (high/losec) have alliances buy the rights to moons. So only they can mine them.

In null, don't have that, but let capital industrial ships (Roqual and MAYBE Orca) extract goo as well. But, at a much lower rate. Which would allow ninja moon mining operations in enemy space.

This is just an idea I'm throwing out there. It more then likely get ignored. Maybe looked over by a few devs who will say "We thought about that and don't like it." It will be flamed at by several people. But remember, this issue was addressed a long time ago, no one (that I'm aware of) came up with a "solution" to this.

Most POS weapons are useless if a large alliance is going to take yours out. The only way they make a dent from what I understand is if players are available to control them. Other wise its just timer games. Turning moon goo into a PI system would be interesting and actually let small corporations build moon goo products.
Though I think CCP wants to turn moon mining into an active income rather than passive. Hence the idea of ring mining that's being worked on and from what i understand discussed actually by CCP

buying the rights to moons is a bad idea, how would someone take it over? Just a perpetually outbidding war till the moon becomes simply too unprofitable to purchase? What if the owning corp or alliance just leaves the game and arent using it, that'd just deny people it. As well as it makes it difficult for smaller entities to compete. A custom office with a tax based system makes far more sense

We already buy the rights to moons in empire space, and a way for someone to take it over.

It's called "Starbase Charters" and "Wardecs."

I'll +1 you on that one!

Corps (Mainly 1 man operations) do that all the time, and what happens when someone abandons a POS in empire?

Moon POCOs are a neat idea. They would move moons from being a sort of nationalized industry that the corp runs directly, to something they protect and collect taxes on while leaving individual players to actually do the mining and selling.

The Rorqual as a ninja moon miner is interesting, but I doubt it would get used much. Few moons are really valuable enough to risk a Rorqual over. Especially if the Rorqual would have to be in it's siege mode to moon mine. Maybe if they changed the ship hanger to hold any type of ship, so the Rorqual pilot could bring some friends in ships that could provide some help

Highsec entities buying the rights to moons it pointless. Not only can they just move out to low/nullsec and mine it themselves, but the vast majority of moon goo is traded in highsec markets. With the way moon goo is distributed, you pretty much have to bring it to a centralized location to trade for the goo that isn't found abundantly in your space. Since highsec is already the default neutral trading hub, they already have every variety of moon goo on their markets.
