Whats the best racial/faction POS for setting up for manufacturing? I want to churn out BPCs etc.

Did you actually just intend to build stuff in it or mainly do research related things like blueprint copying?

Caldari is best for research, from what I've heard, but I'm not at all sure it's very good for manufacturing.

Caldari.

Pos bottle neck is cpu. Caldari towers have the most of all the tower types. Since none of the towers give bonuses to manufacturing or research, Cpu is the thing to go on.

Also because Shields is what determines reinforcement and how long it takes to get there, the little bit more that caldari towers have means that it takes that much longer to reinforce or kill a tower.

Because you said you wanted to churn out bpc. you want a caldari tower for cpu. but make sure about fuel and its costs local and shipping it. it may be cheaper to use a local fuel source despite the smaller cpu on which ever other tower.

amarr towers are the worst though and its not worth using because of their much reduced cpu.

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

Size is also a factor as is location and number of users.

For example, a small caldari can run 2 advance labs, 1 mobile lab, and a corp hanger. This is ample space for a lone indy toon.

For 2 toons, copying, research, and inventing, even a medium amarr works. It can run 2 advanced labs, mobile labs, and 2 ammo assembly arrays plus a corp hanger. That gives you 10 invention slots, 8 copy, and ample me and te slots. However you can't online defenses.

In hi sec, you can anchor defenses and not online them unless wardecced. In low, nul, or wormhole you want active defenses and a small tower can.be killed far too fast.

As for defenses, they can play a role too. Amarr can be popular in a wormhole because of tge bonus to energy weapons. Slap in a normal crystal and you have no ammo issues. If on the other hand, you know you will have a pos defense flewt, caldari is great because you can load it up with ecm to annoy people while the fleet provides the dps.

Honestly, I would say for one toon, in hi sec, a small caldari tower works. For more toons and other space, you may find a medium or large will be better.

Oh, and always put strontium in your tower!

1. Caldari. Most CPU, but least grid, therefore defense consists primarily of massive amounts of shield resist and EWAR modules.

2. Minmatar. Good balance of CPU and grid. Second most shield too. Easily the most defensible (when people say "deathstar" they are probably thinking of Minmatar). AutoCannons require a lot of ammo, so use faction ammo only with artillery. I highly recommend Minmatar for towers in hostile areas.

3. Amarr. Most grid, least CPU. Extremely common in w-space, as there are no ammo hauling issues. With the addition of some projectiles to vary the damage types, Amarr towers can fit a formidable defense with a LOT of turrets.

4. Gallente. Better with one of the above, especially with isotope interdictions. Poor defense (hybrids are horrible, so use projectiles). Gallente do excel at being used for reactions, but Amarr are nearly as good for that.

Pretend that missiles and hybrids do not exist when making a defense plan, as both these weapon systems are horrible (unlike their ship-based cousins, POS weapons are not balanced). Un-bonused projectile turrets are far superior. Bonused lasers are of course the primary turret choice for Amarr towers.

My first tower was a Medium Dread Guristas (Caldari faction). I replaced it about a month later (ugh) when I realized how lacking it was. I upgraded to a large Domination (Minmatar faction), but sold it when the market prices hit 2.2b; it was too much of a risk having that much ISK in space. I now have three standard large Caldari towers. I don't recommend using pirate faction towers anymore.

TIP: For more threads on POS related stuff, do an advanced search with POS related keywords, and look for posts by me. I post a lot on the topic.

Yes, I would also like to build ship parts, etc along with BPO research.

I've used both Caldari and Minmatar for numerous things. My goto flavor though is always Minmatar, the gain in offense/defense capability vs the loss in cpu when compared to the Caldari just makes it the best choice imho. It also has the best racial resists along with the best offensive bonuses, and it can naturally deal omni dmg when properly loaded out.

Dear lord, please help me deal with the insufferable....

Like the others have said, there isn't a best per se but instead racial towers that are more efficient for different things. You can do research on an Amarrian tower just fine, but won't have as much labs as a Minmatar, Caldari, or Gallente tower. Gallente excel at moon mining and reactions because of their extra silo space bonus, Minmatar are popular for staging and defensive POSs, and Amarr are popular for pure war POSs, or even moon mining as they get a small silo boost too.
