Leadership skills questions

Ok if I want to get the benefits of my mining foreman skill what steps do I have to take. Can I just form a gang with a corp member or do I need other skills besides it and leadership for us both to get the benefits? The wiki says we must be in fleet mode? Does that mean I have to have fleet commander then?

Sorry I tried looking around and I suspect I making this more difficult than it is, but figured I would just ask here in hopes of a simple answer.

Thanks in advance

Hello Zartraz,

You need to be designated Fleet booster in order to hand out bonuses. That is all dependent on your leadership skills. If it is at Level V then you can give bonuses to the people in a Squad. If you want to give bonuses beyond that lets say into 2 squads. You will need 3 people in order to do that. 2 Squad Commanders both with Leadership to Level V and then yourself as Wing Booster. You don't need to be in the same corporation or even alliance for fleet bonuses to work you just need to be in the same fleet.

Alright to make sure I am clear on this to gain benefits from mining foreman, armored warfare, siege warfare, skirmish warfare, and so on I need to have leadership 5, form a two man gang, then switch it to a fleet?

Thanks again

Well yes and no. Your Leadership skill lets you pass on bonuses to 2 pilots per level (10 max at level 5). If you only have leadership to level 4 you can only give bonuses to the first 8 people in the squad or it might just not give any bonuses as you don't have the appropriate level to take "Command" of the fleet for bonuses.

If you have a fleet larger then 10 people then you need to form 2 squads and have the Wing Commander skill to level 2 so you can distribute the bonuses to 2 squads (Wing Commander skill = 1 squad per level max of 5). But each of those squads need to have someone in the squad commander position in order to pass down your bonuses. The person with the highest bonuses are passed down.

wiki wrote:
Leadership Bonuses are distributed among individual squads through squad commanders, wing commanders, and fleet commanders when pilots are in the same solar system as the squad, wing, or fleet commanders. Pilots will not receive bonuses if they are in different solar systems than squads with fleet bonuses.

Fleet bonuses do not stack and are not cumulative. In all circumstances, the fleet commander, wing commander, or squad commander with the highest bonus amount will be applied to the fleet members under them.

A Fleet Commander will grant his leadership bonuses to all members in the fleet, including himself.
A Wing Commander will grant his leadership bonuses to all members of his wing, including himself.
A Squadron Commander will grant his leadership bonuses to all members of his squadron, including himself.

Hope that helps a bit more.

Ok its as I suspected I was over complicating things. Thanks for all the help. I am hunting down all the various ways to get a boost to my mining and this one seemed pretty awesome and fairly cheap to do.

A good way to start: one miner and a hauler in a Bestower. Bestower pilot trains for an Orca, or a 2nd Mackinaw for hauling.

Smallest valid one booster fleet = 2 people:
* One Squad Commander (Leadership 1 or higher)
* One Squad Member

Smallest valid two booster fleet = 3 people:
* One Wing Commander (Wing Commander 1 or higher)
* One Squad Commander (Leadership 1 or higher)
* One Squad Member

Smallest valid three booster fleet = 4 people:
* Fleet Commander (Fleet Commander 1 or higher)
* One Wing Commander (Wing Commander 1 or higher)
* One Squad Commander (Leadership 1 or higher)
* One Squad Member

Build fleets from the bottom-up:

* You must have at least one squad member.

* You must have one Squad Commander (SC).

* Wing Commanders (WC) are optional, and only required if you want to have multiple squads (or 2 boosters). If you have a WC, you must have at least one SC.

* Fleet Commander (FC) is optional, and only required if you want to have multiple wings (or 3 boosters). If you have a FC, you must have at least one WC.

The people in command positions (SC / WC / FC) MUST have the skills to command the people under them, in order for the fleet to be valid and bonuses to be applied (green checkmark). Boosters DO NOT need command skills unless they are in a command position.

Anyone can be assigned the role of a booster, but the default are the FC / WC / SC positions. Right-click current booster to Revoke Booster, and then right-click the person you want to assign as booster.

The fleet booster boosts himself and the entire fleet. The wing booster boosts himself and all squads in his wing. The squad booster boosts himself and all members in his squad. (Wing Commanders don't receive FC boosts for some reason)

If boosters give the same type of boost, only the highest one is applied.

There are no gangs anymore, that mechanic was removed a couple of years ago. We only have fleets now.

As the mining foreman, right-click on the miner and select “form fleet with…” and get the miner to accept the fleet invite. You are now in a fleet as squad commander with the miner as a squad member, in your squad.

What was the difference between gangs and fleets? I'm asking out of game design historical interest.

I found that just going through all the patch notes from the first available, and searching for "gang" to be useful to show how they developed over time.
