Future T3s

The concept behind T3 ships is versatility, and the way CCP managed that with the Strategic Cruisers was by introducing Subsystems. Right now these hulls need a bit of fine tuning to make them work as intended, seeing as sometimes they can outperform specialized T2 hulls. All this means that it will take a while for CCP to introduce any other T3s, if it is indeed the case they will be introduced.

Somewhere in a thread about the new Megathron model, a CCP dev said that they would like to have ships that changed shape in space, a la Rorqual or Dreads. This and the fact the next T3s haven't been planned yet (as far as we know) made me think, do they have to use subsystems? I can picture a T3 frigate that changes shape to adapt to 1 of 3 roles, attack, support and disruption. The mechanics to achieve and balance this are irrelevant right now, but the general idea is there and I think it would be something cool and different.

So, now what could make T3 ships stand out would not be their subsystems, but the fact they use mechanics specific to each class. Do you have any other ideas to implement versatility in one ship class?

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

would be more interesting to see the ships change shape according to the modules fitted and rigs (not being affected by subsystems at all) such as if you have a warp disruptor fitted, there would be a visual module to show that (just think of hardpoints for mids/lows as well but affecting the shape of the ship im guessing)

or rigs just affecting the look of it the same way

I think this is what the OP is talking about, or that's just how im visualising it at least

I think CCP has been very correct that they haven't yet introduced T3 frigates.

I think frigate PVP is actually at a very good place right now, and will be even better after the rest of the t1 frigs are changed.

Frig PVP is good and diverse, with a lot of ships being very viable. T3 frigs i think could very easily ruin that balance.

You know what SHOULD transform?

That's one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but I'll keep my thoughts about it to myself; anyways, the idea of this thread is not to talk about shape-changing ships. This is more of a brainstorming excercise so, do you have any ideas to share?
