The overview thing was just to illustrate that I'm not saying I would never get bumped away from a roid...I'd likely not notice a bumper first until I saw my targeted roid go whizzing away (does getting bumped make things go whizzing away? or is it more like slowboating with your engines off?)

Fair enough but I really try to be helpful.

I hope the suggestion helps you in the future to have more situational awareness during mining ops.

You may need it someday. Evil

If properly bumped you'll reach speeds of ~2km/s and decelerate pretty quickly, coming to a complete stop after maybe 15km. If the bumper is overloaded, you can reach up to ~4km/s and travel around 30km.

Back in the day when players used to bump the star gates so nobody could activate them, CCP made them nearly inmovable by increasing their mass using the nearby planet as part of the lore for the weight increase. Time for fat miners?

I don't get it....some misanthrope shows up in my belt while I am shooting at rocks. i probably don't notice him at first because I have an overview full of 20-50KM of rocks, and would probably initially assume he is another miner until he collides with me. At this point, I would probably go back into range of my rock, and if he did it again, I'd ask him to stop. If I got the whole New Order drivel, I'd probably Roll and probably spend some time to dodge the guy.

I most certainly wouldn't pay someone else for a privilege I already have. Now, this may be more simple because I am already sitting there at my keyboard, but what doesn't make sense to me is if I were afk, I wouldn't be there to have a demand of isk placed on me, I'd be afk. bump me all you want if I'm afk...I don't care, I'm not there trying to do anything. It would take me a few seconds to figure out where I am when I got back, and then I'd find the nearest rock and slowboat to it or boomerang to it. Not much of a hassle, imo.

(note, I don't mine ice, so that may have something to do with it)

You're unlikely to get bumped by New Order agents if you're mining ore, current operations are centred around ice belts, although that's subject to change without notice.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Fine in 0.0 and low-sec, but in hi-sec it is circumventing CONCORD blowing you up when you "point" someone like this.

Nobody's forcing you to read these threads is the point.

You just quoted a line of my saying that my logic failed when I decided to read a thread I didn't want to read, and then proceeded to use it as evidence of what I just said. I fail to see why you bothered to post at all.

It's true. In the end, any bumping - anti-bumping thread ends eventually ends up as a logical bowl of spaghetti. Ever read the Knave of Hearts' trial in Alice in Wonderland? Kind of like that.

Okay, this thread has gone way off topic, way back on topic again, then off again.

I left it open so that people had a place to discuss the bumping mechanic.

It's being locked because clearly this is a discussion that's losing focus. The GM's position regarding bumping has been made clear, so there's no more need for any other threads regarding this.

Further threads created will be treated as spam, and dealt with as such. I'll have ISD clean this one up and re-open it once they're happy with it.

Do not create more threads on this subject.

Hi,

This thread has had a severe pruning at the request of CCP.

I urge everyone to take heed of CCP Falcon's post, above mine.

Thanks.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

So New Order disparages non-risk taking isk making by making isk without risk taking.

And they are selling mining rights in hi-sec, which is supposedly part of a sovreign nation.

They target systems with NPC corps and new players calling them a threat to the game.

And CCP tells people to deal with it without providing a legitimate means for the players being victimized to deal with it.

And they pretend like it is one entity instead of hundreds of "fanbois" that are undertaking this activity.

Wow, this is the intelligent, gritty game I thought I was joining.

That's where you went wrong. EVE is not a "intelligent, gritty game", it is a "cold, dark and harsh world" (as once described by CCP Wrangler).
