Wouldnt you feel that much more BA if your whole fleet were blood red raging around then suddenly got fleet warped by a bunch of holy justified butt munchers in there pure white space bugs spitting words on how your the plague of the universe!!?

Augh, just got that second kind of cool feel going on as you call in fleet 2 on there sniper ships as cruisers bash through frigs the blazing hell created by clashing colors swarming one another in an seemingly infinite battle royal while actually able to visually tell that nutty solider on your starboard side is gunning you down with the might of his holy emperor!!?

Perhaps a bit too optimistic but wouldnt you love that extra since of unity, that comes with having similar qualities further identifying yourself as being apart of a team?

Would changeable ship colors really be that much of a load on the servers? Or is its goal just to enable limited addition ships?

Why is it that people think this game is for everyone?A better question would be "Why do some people think this game is only for them?"

I would be fine with just NPC corp skins while they develop the truly customizable skins. DAMN IT CCP, WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! IMPLEMENT THIS NAOW

If it were fully customizable people would abuse it. Pink fleets and polkadot fleets are immersion breaking.

why is that immersion breaking? why in a time period where we can neurally interface with ships, clone ourselves to be immortal, turn invisible, teleport and travel faster than light can we not paint our ships? really, not being able to customize ships is immersion breaking

Yeah, you could paint your cape in Guild Wars back in 2004 and it's gonna be 2013 soon... That's just the oldest online game I can remember with similar functionality.

No one said it was immersion breaking, it works the same way when you create your corp logo, only it's in 3D and you run around with it.

R&K = purple fleet
CVA = gold
Pirates = black/red
Goons = bright pink
Test = rainbow

I like it, would open up propaganda opportunities as well. "Taste the rainbow" comes to mind.

I think the standard argument is that not only is there no system in place for allowing the customization of ship skins, but no mechanics currently would allow having every ship rendered a unique skin without undue server stress.

Maybe giving every ship in one large (1000+ account) alliance the option to get a unique skin would be better. The alliance could set ship skins, and then when the alliance gets in a fleet together all ships have that skin? That way, the game wouldn't have to render 100 different skins for a big battle, just skins for each large alliance there in fleet. I dunno, I'm just trying to think of a way that wouldn't cause immense lag.

The level of trolling in the forums and the in-game chat is not enough? Now you want the ability to troll my eyes with funky colors?

First you ask for colors customization, next you'll ask for switching characters without logging out.

Armored Core - 1997 You could custom pain job your machine. They've also improved upon it along the series.

If you fly Amarr (or just use lasers on any old boat) you can pick the color of your laser beams!

It's almost just as cool.

OK some people think it's actually cooler.

In the future, all forms of paint are outlawed so it becomes a valuable commodity among space pirates.

We don't have it because the aesthetics of the ships in EVE, is pretty much all EVE has going for it when we're talking visuals.

CCP has put a lot of resources into creating distinctively different themes for the ships. At the moment they are expanding upon it by reworking and introducing more colour schemes.

The ships are one of the few things CCP can work with in a space game and they are not going to compromise the integrity of that by letting people paint their ships bright pink and yellow. For every 1 fleet that would use the option like you describe it, 10000 players would paint their ships bright neon and sit at the Jita 4-4 undock.

It's simply too valuable of an asset to let people "ruin" it by turning EVE ships into the new West Brit Bank, and I don't think the marketing team feels there is any reason to widen the gap between their trailers and what people will experience when they start playing either.

If not base colours, at least give us a selection of skins for our ships. Maybe have 4 for each ship or something.

And who cares if someone wants to paint their ship flourescent pink.

Run it by the guys in graphics and see what this will do to graphics card requirements first.

Honestly though, it sounds like a lot of extra resources for some namby-pamby peacocking in spaceTM.
