I have been bored and playing with the idea of putting up a POS to mine a moon in lowsec. I am just wondering what are the chances someone is going to fly by and blow it up? I am likely thinking it would just be a throwaway POS in the first place just for giggles, but I don't want it to get smashed a few days after i put it up lol. I am also not going to mine anything fancy, just something to help pay the fuel bill costs.

depends where
depends what
depends on defenses
etc

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

If it is in a low traffic system, at a moon not worth fighting for. I would say you are fairly safe. You will need to establish at least a some what friendly relationship with any pirates in the area. Pirate4s generally hate bashing POSes but some are territorial and don't want anyone else in their territory.

Low sec POSes are much easier to take down than high sec due to no war dec needed and that you can field dreads in low sec. However most large alliances will not bother evicting you if you are not on a moon they have interest in. Just don't cause them any trouble.

Pirate corps and small alliances may be more willing to attack your POS if it is in their territory, but for these corps a dread is not cheap. There is still little to no reward for bashing a POS in low sec. For most pirates it is not worth risking their dread unless you are using that POS to stage against them. Or they really hate you. Even in low sec POS bashing is very boring. Nobody wants to do it, they do it only when needed. If you keep of their radar you are fairly safe.

it is low sec though, so you will always be at risk. you could have a POS their for years untouched, or have it popped the day after you put it up. This is a risk you take in low sec. But for the most part I would say you have a good chance of being left alone. If you choose the system and moon wisely.

Hmm thanks for the advice. I know about all the downsides of lowsec, but that is why I was looking at a system a few jumps off of the main route in the lowsec region I am looking at. And the system is usually dead with only one or two people around at a time.

Plus it has a major moon mining presence as the system has several r64 moons, which I have no interest in only just a much cheaper r16 moon which no-one wants lol. I might just throw one up as a test to see how long if at all it gets attacked and just make it as cheap as possible, but I don't want to go too big of a tower because the fuel costs would far outstrip the help the moon materials would provide. I would try wh space for reactions but I find wh space to be utterly boring and too much work lmao.

Oh well if it gets blown up it isn't too big of a lossmail + stolen mods etc, and I would have learned a few things in the process.
