Offlining a POS

If I just offline the tower, can I keep all the other structures anchored and in place until I online the tower again? I understand that this will offline all of my sturctures.

I don't think your idea is a good one and may result in all your modules being scooped up by other pilots. That's if your idea is even possible. Offlined towers are a curse anyway - just take it down altogether if you don't want to use it atm.

If i remember right, if your tower runs out of fuel or you offline it manually, all buildings around will be still anchored but offline so not scoopable by someone else.
Just anyone can come and destroy them.
You cannot unanchor the tower until all buildings are unanchored or destroyed.
And Yes, you can leave everything offline and anchored and just fill up or online it again whenever you want.
Just you risk it being shot while the forcefield is down.

Yes, You can offline the tower and leave all the modules around it anchored and offline. This is generally not a good idea though. Even in high sec.

When you off line your tower and leave all the modules anchored they are very vulnerable. They can not be scooped as long as they are anchored, but they can be attacked directly without destroying the tower first. Or if the tower is destroyed they can then be scooped and stolen.

In high sec it is a very common practice to offline towers but leave them anchored. An anchored tower costs nothing to leave sitting there offline. When you need it you can just online it without needing the standings to reanchor it. I even have a large offline tower anchored myself. To anchor a new tower I have to boot several corp members to get standings up. But with it already anchored with fuel in it, it just needs to be onlined and it is good to go. We have a small POS that is always online with research labs, but sometimes we get busy and need to online the large tower for more facilities. A small does not support much..

This practice carries some risk as many desirable systems have no empty moons, so if someone wants to anchor a POS there, they need to Bash one of the abundant offline towers to take its spot. Most will target a small POS if available as a group of 4 BS's with full DPS fits can take down a small POS in about an hour. I did this myself once.

This is where the risk comes in from leaving POS modules anchored. High sec POS bashing very rarely brings in any isk.This is why it does not happen much. But if there are a bunch of POS modules anchored around the offline POS they can be popped very easily and will drop anything the still have inside as loot. This is common as most POSes that are found offline with modules anchored simply ran out of fuel and were not planed to be offline.

The other option is to bash the POS and scoop all the modules. It does not take many modules to get enough value from the scooped modules to make the POS bash profitable. Leaving modules anchored around a offline POS will make it a very juicy target. I do recommend that if you have issues with standings to anchor a POS you leave it anchored and offline if you plan to use it again. But I highly recommend against leaving modules anchored. this is just being lazy. Scoop them and store them in station until needed.

If you are in hisec, you can safely offline the tower, as you still need a wardec to shoot at anything.

If your get a wardec, online the tower and defences.

Yes, that works. if you are active enough to be on within the 24 hours after the war is declared. It is surprising how many are not, at least during the week.

When I go after a high sec POS I try to plan the war dec to go live as close as possible to the time we will actually attack the tower. If I plan on hitting your tower at 6pm tomorrow when I get home from work, I will declare the war today as close to 6pm as possible. If you do not log in tonight for what ever reason, or do not get on tomorrow before 6pm the war could be live before you know about it.

However If I am just going after the POS to free up a moon, I will actually send a message to the current C.E.O. of the owning corp. Offering them isk equal to the cost of the war dec to take it down. Then give them 24hrs to respond. When bashing a POS to free up a moon, I usually look for a small offline POS. If possible one that at least appears to belong to an inactive corp.

This usually results in no reply to my message. but if they do reply and accept the offer, It cost me the same isk as if I had war decced them but saves the work of bashing the tower. A win win. If they use the opportunity to online the tower and defenses then that POS is more bother than it is worth and I find a new target.

Taking down a POS is not as hard as many believe. A small gang of 4 battleships all fit for max DPS(at least 1000 DPS set toward a zero resist on the tower) can take down a small tower in about an hour. A medium in about 2 1/2 hours, or a large in about 6 hours. Doubling the fleet size will cut the time by more than half as with a large tower the dps of one BS is eaten up by the POS shield regen. Still not sure why an offline POS even has shields, let alone full shield regen of an online POS.

The safety of a high sec POS really has little to do with the war dec mechanics. It is more an issue of the reward is not worth the effort to bash it. There is generally little to know reward/loot for bashing a high sec POS. It is generally only done to free up a Moon or settle a grudge.
