[POS] Defense module - :: Fighter Drone Bay Module::

I would love to contribute my idea towards [POS] Defense if no one has not yet....I would love to see an anchorable module that can hold fighters to defend a pos ( May be OP at first until it is nerfed) but this will be a high in demand item due to it being a very effective system defense module. To prevent to many modules it can be restricted to the [POS] having a -99% reduction to 'Fighter Bay' to be anchored-- Using more than one of these modules will result in the previous 'Fighter Bay' to go offline...This is a basic idea and very important suggestion due to many people out there who reside in a [POS]...

- Fighters will gain value and the market will be booming.

- Fighter bays will be expensive as well

So how is this idea?

This probably wouldn't see nearly as much use as you think. Fighters are stupidly easy to shoot down.

Cool idea, it reminds me of something you may find useful as reference.
I had an idea for a drone hangar back in January, that was intended to be a POS module.

I can't find the thread, but the basic idea was that the fighters would react to threats much the way faction navies do.
(They detect unwanted entry into the system, and launch fighters to attack)

The basic idea: This space sov belongs to Alliance X. You are not blue to us. Our fighter drones are now engaging you while our player pilots prepare to assault.
Have a nice day!

(Excerpt from original for reference):
Here is the cool part. I would enable a new module, a drone hangar. Not sure how many drones, (the big fighters, not scouts unless you want those instead), makes sense for this, but it could be the alliance version of having their own Concord equivalent force to protect their own turf.

Maybe they need SOV 5 or something first, or maybe it can scale.

Each defensive station can have it's own drone hangar at a gate, and a central one can be made too, I am thinking. The drones can be set to react to an attack on any gate by warping to it to reinforce the defenses there. (This could result in all the drones in the system warping to the same location to fight, or maybe just a select few from the main hangar?)

The strategies could become complex here...
ECM ships might be able to jam a station's signal, so it cannot summon other drones until the jamming is stopped...
A diversionary force might come in one gate, draw all the drones to them on purpose, while another force comes in by a second gate...
The station might have drone support modules, or even reserve drones to replace lost fighters during a battle...
Drones could be programmed to react to any hostile detected in the system, making covops a serious discipline to maintain... (anything longer than a minute uncloaked, and a system scanner begins to locate you?)

^^This....

My first thought was to go to a POS and gain fighter aggro.... warp off, have them follow, and gank them... at 10-15m a piece, you can do some economic damage while simultaneously declawing the pos....

It's an interesting idea to be sure. Though as others have mentioned killing fighters is not too difficult, especially if one is expecting them.

Perhaps a "hangar" at the cardinal points on the POS (whatever they wind up looking like) that can deploy sentries as opposed to fighters...

I'd suggest sentries because they would lock faster so DPS gets on targets sooner. They won't warp away like the fighters do (and get caught in someone's fighter trap = bubble) and get nuked at over 10m a pop. They are also easier to kill for smaller ceptor/frig pilots and that would create some reason to have those ships in fleet with you on the structure shoots.

The POS module itself could apply some sentry bonus(es) for when they are deployed (e.g. addl 15% damage, armor, shield, tracking, range or some combination of those so that they can't just be ignored by capital fleets aggressing the POS.

I'm right behind you

Yeah, that's a weakness that needs at least tactical consideration.

I would strongly suggest the fighters be proactive, and engage at entry points to the system.
Don't wait for hostile pilots to organize and warp to the actual POS or outpost.

I would also set them to retreat in the even losses to their numbers happened too fast, suggesting they were not effective.

And like a POS gunner controls some fun, I would allow them to be assigned to other friendly ships like a carrier does. That would beef up defenses in home systems so holding sov gave an advantage on the front line.

Example of basic tactics, presuming the fighters can quickly lock targets:
Wave one comes in, fires in passing, warps out to second spot. (Purpose: breaks target locks, an advantage if attackers take longer to lock)
Wave two duplicates this tactic, etc.
This may not kill anything, but it will be harassing fire. Creative placement of warp bubbles may enhance.
I played dungeon keeper too much years ago.

so a TL;DR would be. fighters for posses, 'cannot equip more then 1' ? its a good idea i think for back end systems where you dont need as much defence as hardcore death star pos's as fighters could be popped quite fast in hostile situations.
