Hey everybody.

It has come to my attention that there is a dedicated group of individuals who are committed to the idea that anything and everything in Eve-Online is a form of PVP. I am not going to argue the logic of that with anyone because it is simply easier not to.

However, this creates a problem as to what to call what we used to be able to call PVP (that is, without being corrected on it and whatever point we were trying to make being completely obliterated by the subsequent discussion of semantics).

I would like a propose a few suggestions as to possible names for what the rest of us are thinking of when we use (err used to use) the term PVP. There needs to be some sort of catchy, easy name for ship to ship combat... and ship to ship combat is just too long and will never catch on.

So here is my contribution of some suggestions for a new name for this activity that we can all agree upon in an effort to foster better communication in these forums:

Again the activity I am talking about is SHIP TO SHIP COMBAT.

New names:

STSC = Ship to Ship Combat
POPV = Player on Player Violence
BAD = Being a Di*k
....

Any others?

Why do you want to separate it conceptually from the rest of the game? If somebody destroys a ship, the impact on the person losing their ship is conceptually similar to a trader gouging another player for a bit of extra ISK. Somebody is using their preferred play-style to ream somebody else. The nature of EVE :)

If you do need to distinguish, simply call it what it is and describe the situation and let any discussion rest on that, no?

Most anyone arguing that, myself included, is usually trying to point out to some carebear that EVE is player driven, PvP-centric (in the purest "player versus player" interpretation), and that blowing your **** up is just another tool in the sandbox, and preventing someone from blowing your **** up as a game mechanic is bad.

Outside of such discussions, PvP is emminently suitable as a term to describe ship-to-ship combat.

Is AOTF (arguing on the forums) a form of PvP?

that's more an event in the special olympics type of thing, than meaningful pvp.

Wo0tage.. someone finally admitted it. Thanks.

I just don't understand null sec players.

**Please note: **Anytime I use the phrase PvP in a post, I'm talking about shooting/combat/killing things/blowing things up. Thank you.
