Allow us to track relevant dev posts with the Dev Tracker

While we all agree that the dev tracker in the forum is an awesome "tool" to help us in keeping up with all the information, I'm pretty sure that there are one or two other people out there who feels that sometimes having to dig through dozens of Alliance Tournament and Moderation posts while looking for Game Development posts is a little tiresome.

And while obvioulsy it would be very hard to properly track relevant posts, i feel that it would be cool if we could at least filter some stuff. We all know, for instance, that CCP Phantom is a community dev, and more often than not his posts will be about moderation. We also know that CCP Fozzie's posts are almost always related to content development.

Of course, we all love our community staff, feel that they are awesome and would like to constantly shower them with gifts ... but i don't really think that people who hit the Dev Tracker are actually looking for their posts.

So is it possible to create some type of relevant filters? Maybe being able to filter and only see posts from Team Super Friends, Team Five-0 and even Team Pony Express. (Just joking. We love Team Pony Express).

Sorry if i sounded like i don't care about all the other CCP guys posting. It's just that i'd love to be able to track each work group better =)

GM need a tag first. Just because they live underground and get fed scraps from the CCP canteen doesn't mean we dont wantto skip to their postBlink

GM's have tags. Still, i don't understand why community staff have developer tags.

Legitimizing that they are, in fact, endorsed by CCP, and not just random scrubs with "ISD" before their name?

Devs dont need to be tracked, they simply need to register with the proper authorities.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I don't get your point.

GM's have tags that legitimize that they are, in fact, endorsed by CCP, and not just random scrubs with "ISD" before their name. And they don't have developer tags.

Okay, I'm confused. The "name" tags are:

  • "CCP __________" - CCP employees; all developers have this tag, though not everyone with this tag is a developer.
  • "GM __________" - Subclass of CCP employees; deals with customer support in an official manner (petitions, etc).
  • "ISD __________" - Community volunteers; Not CCP employees, but part of a CCP crowdsourcing initiative; what I thought you meant by "community staff".

These are tags for "special people" on the forums. Tags on the threads show up next to threads that contain posts from CCP and GMs. Is the concern that instead of the blue tag reading "CCP", it reads "DEV"?

The issue is that the "dev" tracker tracks people who aren't actually on any development team. You hit the dev posts button looking for development news and instead find that 8 out of 10 posts are thread-locks, thread-moves and other things that are otherwise related to the community staff. And the new "moderation discussion" thread didn't help matters either.

And its not their fault, obvioulsy. They are doing their job. But i don't understand why their posts are tracked by a "development tracking" tool.

Ah, so I misunderstood when you said "community staff" by thinking you meant "staff from the community" rather than "staff which deals with the community." My bad.

Yes, there should perhaps be some differentiation between CCP Phantom's and CCP Fozzie's tags (for example) to prevent blue-tag blue-balling. If that's what you meant, +1.

Yeah. One idea was maybe formalize the development work groups. So you could see filters for Team Five-0, Team Super Friends, Team Pony-Express, etc. Since each team works with a certain area, that would go even further in helping with clarity.

Your problem seems to be that you don't understand what the word Developer means. It doesn't just mean "Someone who makes game content" it means "Someone who develops something", In this case Community Development. It might also be worth finding out exactly what roles the Community Team at CCP have, like for instance developing, running and managing the Fanfests. I highlighted the important word there.

there is a way for CCPers to post without showing up in the dev tracker, phantom, for example uses it often to make moderation posts

the new community reps are learning right now, but i have confirmation from eterne and falcon that they are aware of the "problem" and will try to avoid making posts :)

I honestly don't think that's the case. And even if it is, i don't see a lot of interest in tracking a lot of whats under the Dev Posts tab.

How about a GAME dev tracker? You know, the ones that people clicking on a "dev tracker" actually care about...
