I was recently looking for an empire system to place a pos in. After choosing a system that works for me I found that most of the moons have a pos already anchored preventing me or anyone else from take that moon. Many of the POS's are ofline and dont have any pos mods at all in the area.

Looking at the info on the pos it shows it belongs to a small low member corp but I can't tell if the corp is active or not. What options do I have to get the pos removed?

1) declare war on the corp and blow up the pos?
2) Try and contact the corp and see if they will remove it? (not likely)
3) petition it? and see if the pos can be removed?

Surely this issues has been discussed before, and why are pos's not removed from game if they are abandoned similar to the giant secure can removal that CCP did a while back.

What options to I have?

1 & 2.

Plus you could find another system, or hire mercs to remove it for you.

Hmm.. a merc corp..

Never thought of that one.. I am guessing it would costs a crap load of isk to do that.

Options 1&2 are really the only options that you have. As for hiring a Merc Group to do it for you well the amount of ISK depends on the group.

How'bout this route, put in forum here what your looking for, there are folks in sell forum selling moons/corp and it is cheaper then the war or merc route, I mean I've seen them selling for about 50 to 100+ mil but to be honest do some recon you will find moons available they are out there. And do recon in a shuttle for speed or a smaller size industrial with enough room for a POS and a days worth of fuel to get things started.

1.) Possible, though requires a shitload of time from you as a POS has a really high amounts of hitpoints and high-sec doesn't give you the dreadnought ability to take them down quick.

2.) Possible. EVEwho.com should give you an estimate of the corps activity, but likely it's jsut a corp of people who went inactive in the game, an alt corp of someone who has more important stuff to do or what ever.

3.) NOT possible, CCP won't delete them as they are just a proper game mechanic. If you want them gone, you have to do it yourself.

What is needed is a legal (non-combabative) means to take them down. After all, if they are abandoned, then they are salvage and should be able to be taken by whoever wants them.

I am sure that folks will scream at me otherwise, but at least it will give Corps the incentive to tidy up after themselves

Some more info on (3):

You may petition POSes if they belong to a corp that is closed, and are in hisec. The GMs will remove those since there is no real way to kill them (you can't wardec closed corps, and you get CONCORDed if you shoot the POS).

You mean, other than losing a tower they paid good money for?
