My Question is to all the new players out there.

What do you find is the most difficult aspect of the game so far? What are you having a hard time doing and what do you want to do but dont know how?

When I first started I had a hard time with timers and still to this day I dont always remember all the timer lengths.

Honestly, I'd have to say the hardest part for me has always been focusing on a skill path. As a player, I could never seem to focus on one thing. Always excited about the next ship class...

Later I learned the value of picking a ship or two that I enjoyed and mastering them. Then new ones were created, and I couldn't help myself :P

Finding a corpo which :
- doesn't ask for 10-100 Millions SP min
- is active
- isn't just a chat box, but actually a place where people really play together
- isn't stuffed with stupid administrative procedures
- isn't a place where to be exploited by a dictatorial hierarchy

A corpo, a place where you don't feel lonely nor slave, a place to simply share adventures with nice players... *sighs*
That's the hardest task for a new player.

I am a new player and the hardest thing for me is ship fitting. There are so many modules that even searching battleclinic does not seem to enlighten me. I feel that this is a steep learning curve.

Start the day off slow and taper off from there.

TBH if your in large fleet battles and the overview is not working for you you might not be a noob but on the other hand you could be a noob in a large corp who hasnt taught you anything so my advice would be to leave said corp and try something else or you could just be trolling a useful post that is meant to show new players everyone has/had the same problems they have.

Inreagrds to Corps if they ask you to sign up for 20 different voice servers and expect you to be on all or atleast some of them at the same time then I would look for another corp. One Teamspeak is enough for a new player not TS, Vent, Mumble, Jabber and joe blows voice coms no thank you.

I agree Battle Clinics is a niche website and half or more of those fittings are outdated or just plain crap. If your unsure of a fitting considering what you are using it for I like to link them in the help channel and you will get an assorment of responses some good some bad but every once in awhile someone will give you some good advice on your fitting. When in doubt link your fit in local and see what players say but be sure and tell them what you want to use it for.

The overview is a *****, I've played for 8 months-ish, still don't know how to work the damn thing.

Finding a corporation? You could always make one :P, like I did. Or keep looking for one that isn't a complete scam.
(Note: Mine isn't)

Ship fitting takes a little time. I suggest downloading Pyfa. Saves money and a lot of hassle

Pfft skill paths... TRAIN EVERYTHING! (To IV)
But really, specialization helps a bunch. But there is no limitation stating you need to. It just makes you more useful in the grand scheme.

I don't always do shit. But when I do, it's usually worth doing.

I've been playing since June of this year. The overview was easy...but maybe that's just the way my head works. I haven't run into a corp I didn't like yet. RvB was cool. My first corp Defensive Parameter taught me SO much. Dark Knight Legion is way laid, back. These guys are deadly too, so is the alliance. I've heard so,many horror stories but I read a lot, analyze every situation & take (proly too much) time to think through every scenario. I've found the Eve community to be the best & most helpful (if not overly eager to kill, **** you & steal all your stuff after said help) of all the mmo's out there. My only real problem with the game is that I didn't find it years ago when I had enough time to play... Yes, that's it. I need at least 10 more free hours a day to kill/**** you all and steal your stuff. Pirate

This is by far my hardest difficulty so far.
I already have a few trading skills, industry skills, and combat skills trained, and it's only day 4. I've chosen PVP at this point, but I'm still not sure what race/ship path to go with. It all looks good from this end.

Also, I'd say finding a corporation, honestly. There's just so many out there, and being new it's hard to figure out which ones are good and which ones aren't. On top of that, I'm wanting to get into null sec, so it's been an enormous challenge trying to convince null sec corps that I'm worth training. So far it's been fruitless, but I'm not giving up.

The exploration tutorial missions seemed unreasonable. Everything else has been much easier after I figured that out. I think learning to focus what to skill up has been difficult. I have ended up skilling quite a few things that are not needed for a guy who has been playing 1 1/2 months. After the initial tutorials I wasn't sure what to do. For awhile all I did was put things in the skill que. The way skills progress in this game has peaked my interest alone & kept me playing. I am still not sure what I want to do in this game. For now I plan on running missions. I really like my destroyer. I look forward to getting a better destroyer in December. The community is really thriving but most people give bad advice especially in game help channel. I can't believe how many of you participate in the forums on this site. It seems like you really care.

While working today I caught myself daydreaming about my ship. I guess I am hooked!

If you want to get into null & PvP, look into the corps that are in alliance/coalitions with TEST and Goonswarm, they are the biggest entities out there and, while the same might not be true of their alliance mates, they both love noobies and run noob programs designed to get you into fights on your first day.

For those having fun with ship fittings Pyfa as mentioned is good, there is also Eve Fitting Tool which is a tool aimed primarily at ship fitting and EveHQ which is more of a swiss army knife tool that does everything.

For basic skills as a noobie you wouldn't go far wrong using The Newbie Skill Plan from Tippia, change out the racial specific skills for ones of your choice if you choose to do so

As a new player, I don't seem to find any difficulty that I can't bypass. It's easy when you actually read anything that is meant for your development. In the first days, a corp already recruited me and they're lots of fun. My only concern is if they would've been part of a bigger alliance or just be a more expanded corp so that I might be engaged in wars more often.

There is one specific problem though that i'm still encountering and can't seem to resolve is that error I get when trying to purchase an item off the market. It starts with "Broker could not find your order..." I get this quite a lot with many items when trying to buy from the Details tab.

no I"m serious, even after getting a ton of presets and setting it up right it's a real pain once you go over about 40 ships total in a battle. the names are confusing until I can remember what class and function every ship has and there aren't any real fast ways to sort them outside of having a selection of 5 overview tabs ready. It gets easier with practice but important info still tends to get lost on the screen

the most difficult part of the game to me so far is that if I have the wrong overview pulled up all sorts of important things are suddenly completely invisible which sucks when you're trying to learn pvp and battle the interface at the same time. I'm not really complaining since I've been finding ways to work around it, but this topic was asking what was difficult

I still haven't found a setup for my overview that i really like.

That being said, the most difficult thing for me was figuring out what i wanted to do in this game. When i started, i suffered from having too many options and it took me a while to find a path that i like. I am still straying a bit from it, though. Even while my core interest lies in manufacturing and playing the market game, i own a Maelstrom to run a few L4s when i feel like it, a Hurricane somewhere in the Great Wildlands for some null ratting and a Drake in Minnie lowsec for some exploration...and some jumpclones to tie it all together.

It's hard to keep focus in this game.

I too have a hard time finding focus and when its lost and I have that inevitable feeling of boredom I like to explore. The biggest mistake I believe I made was skilling missiles when I really wanted to PVP. I admit I did not do my homework when I first started skilling up and was more focued on making isk and working towards that LVL 4 mission boat but now I sort of regret it. Dont get me wrong missiles are viable but not so much in solo pvp encounters.

Then I discovered the industry aspect of the game so I grinded my standings and finally anchored my own small pos in a .07 system. I made a realtively cheap investment and bought some unresearched BPO's and started reserching them. They have started to finally generate a steady income and I am able to expand to shiny ships that I can afford to lose now. The only problem is I dont really want to leave my one man corp because my alts are skilled up high enough yet to fill the depleted research slots.

The one thing that still puzzles me is the wormholes exits and entrys Why cant they stay in the same place lol. I like scanning but having to scan everytime I want to go back to a wormhole. Explorring is something I am really enjoying at the moment. It especially helps if you have a cloaky scan boat I love jumping through multiple wormholes and trying to get lost I end up in some of the weirdest systems.

One thing I wish they would implement is a cloaky mining boat so I can mine in null and if someone pops up in system I just cloak up.

In order

1. Money making it having it figuring out how to make it work for you. right now losing a 2 mil ship is a big deal and you see people that are like whoops lost a 50mil oh well.

2. Skills everything you do is just worse, and to get your "core" skills is going to take years even if you only decide to fly one hull. And you really don't know if your gonna like something until you try it and have already trained potentially useless skills if you don't like it.

3. Being useful in fleet and not just a tag along, Ya i know everyone says oh but you can tackle but the reality is you don't have the skills to target fast enough far enough out or the speed to catch anyone.

Hopefully i don't come off as bitter i am actually having a great time its just really tough being new and knowing that in a month everything changes and you have possibly been training in the wrong direction the whole time.

I've been playing for five and a half years now, but one thing that bothered me early on, and which still bothers me, is the difficulty of finding a station with a cloning facility (for skill clones) when I get podded or when I need to upgrade my clone. The interface for doign that is (at best) clunky and user-unfriendly.

A few days ago, I just bookmarked a station near one of the places I usually fly, so that I can shuttle there whenever I need to. But it's silly that the game doesn't make it easier to find stuff you need or want, and in the particular case of skill clones, it can mean that new players fail to upgrade skill capacity and so end up losing a lot of SP when podded which may then sour them on the game, causing an avoidable rage quit.

The skill system and the time needed for some equipment like t2 guns/launchers can be a bit tedious for new players like me (1 month), but that is all.

I love EVE because it is hard but very rewarding.
