Nostalgic Smells

Walking out of a restaurant this morning. Some guys doing somekind of work on the door. They were using some kind of chemicals/oils and suddenly I was back in the arms room in my Army days. Get the same feeling whenever I smell mothballs.

Funny how strongly smells affect memories.

Acetone always makes me think of my dad's workbench when I was growing up, even though I work with acetone almost every day now. It was the magical chemical that took the annoying stickers off my toys and got rid of the pine sap on my hands.

Wood smoke be it from a chimney or someone burning off a brushpile. When I smell woodsmoke it takes me to one of many campfires I sat around or have made.

The smell of burnt ball powder, no one seems to know what causes the smell as cordite was made obsolete after world war 2 so it's not that.
