Never stopped you before........

THATS RIGHT I WENT THERE.

Joking aside I've played this game since beta and the "Eve killers" came and went and none came close. I doubt Squadron 42 will be any different, the genre might be the same but the games will be different.

Only thing in my mind that could kill Eve is a monumental f**k up from CCP, they've tried as well but failed like the rest.

Well it is something people have been wanting for a long time. I remember on launch day for EnB, one of the top conversations in chat was how the game reminded people of wing commander and how they only wished wing commander would be made as an mmo. If he does it in that WC style, it'll get attention. hah and if he stays far away from EA, it's sure to be a hit. *grumbles at EA destroying EnB*

I'm in it for the money

two new "space-sims" are coming

The first one is Star Citizen, with Squadron 42 as a game-in-game, more information here: http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/

The Game is crowdfunded and made by the creator of the Wing Commander Series, Privateer and Freelancer, described as an open world Space sim with a realistic physics model and huge scale from very small to very big, it looks like it will be an MMO, it advertised with a player driven economy.

The second one is Valves new IP, Stars of Barathrum, some concept art can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=emwtvgthtrw&pxtry=1

hardly anything is known about this one, its described as a very open world with loads of possibilities. valve is known for great single player games with even greater multiplayer modes, but not for MMOs

i personally can't wait, competition in the open world and spaceship genre is something eve really needs, also freelancer was a fantastic game and i have loved every single valve game i have played so far. good times ahead. !

So what? There is 2 options:

It's just a space games, nothing simillar to EVE;
It'll be much like it. But so what? Look at the MMOGs today - there is tousands of them... BUT they're all actually the same, there is only 3-5 different games... But in each category there is 1-2 of the games are real, others are pure marketing project made only for a money without any inspiration about the game. And EVE was "real" at least for a first few years that is still means a lot.

In other words: real thing will never lose in this game. The question is how real EVE is now.

As for me, if it's a game where i need to be constantly online and do something to be in a good shape - it's a game for a couple of months, if not weeks. No matter how cool is it in the other things.

in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. I'm not a teenager, how would i like it much?

No not similar to EvE ,but with promising gameplay in arias this game lacks
Like EvE star citizen will a sandbox, it will be player driven
all the aspects EvE has now, except true object scaling walking around a big ************ carrier ,the possibility of multiple players on 1 ship Pilot/gunner ,gates discovered by players will get their name

Like i said if only half of the vision of this game is true ,CCP has serious competition
For now there is nothing else like EvE and his genre " sci-fi"

Well then it's a good thing because:

1. maybe CCP will bring something actually new to the game instead of wasting time on unenteresting things. Well they're interesting just for the buch of 0.0 players, who are just as easy leave this game for the better one, which has all those things that they're "don't wanted" in EVE done.
2. Well, if it'll be better, we'll be playing a greater game. It's good for us, i think? :) In this case AT LAST i'll be able to walk on my space ship or station, so it'll be bor real than the iron bricks in EVE. And it'll be fair because CCP are decided this game to be exactly that deep. Now there will be an alternative for those who wants more than that - interesting missions, exploring the DIFFERENT systems. Not just do same PVP crap every day and hoping to see some change.

For now this game is in the same state as EVE: They have promises, and CCP was showing something in the "Future vision" video. For now CCP has only the alpha version of this "Future vision" which doesn't seems to be completed very soon.

The same thing we do here ,when promises are made.
At least if the game turned out to be a bad game ,its easy to leave

Well, if the visuals and ship physics on the game are anything to go by, and chris roberts puts the same effort into the actual gameplay and sandbox elements, then i'd say eve is in trouble for sure.

Just the graphics already blow eve away big time unless one is blind, and the fact that the game is publically financed means that publishers can go **** themselves as they have no say how far and how deep the game can be just to meet a release date or a budget, and i like that he clearly states that it'll push PC's to the limit and that consoles can go **** themselves too, so no watering down the game so that it can still play on 7 year old hardware.

first one the retuen of wingcommanders seems very ambitious to me , second like you said hardly anyt info on them

They said ST O was going to kill EvE it didn't , they said the same about SWTOR , it failed

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

Read some articles on the site, it's got my attention and i thought about EVE and this game.

I don't have much hopes for the Valve because i think they're making it just to have some money.

But the other one is really interesting, because

1. This guy made some amazing space sims, including Freelancer! Other space sims not nearly as interesting as this games. Yes. there was some space MMORPGS which was promising and failed, but this guy has some expirience. Today many games doesn't achieve success, but there is so many of them and they're all the same so most of the people don't ever hear about them.

2. This guy is inspired. He're doing this game because he want to have this expirience, to be a space pilot. And he's souds like he will do it even if he personally don't get big money for that. And the money it's just a material that will hel him to create and improve his dream game. Well, that the picture i've got.
EVE was started the same way - they don't wanted it to be the game for a million players, it's was on the old dev blogs. They're decided to create the game that THEY will love, not because market told them so. And what was the result? It's was a stunning game. And what now? They're focused on bringing more players, doesn't matte how stupid they are, doesn't matter that EVE becomes more and more easy. OK, they're decided that it's time to finally develop the avatar gameplay, so the gameplay will be more deep, so players will mege in this sci-fi environment and feel more than a spaceship... But some idiots cried on the forums - and what? Instead of dealing with it, explaining, or making stuff better, they're just scraped this great idea and fully focused on things that players told them to. They're listened to the people who never ever tried to develop games. Who's game is it and what goal does it serves? Well, now when i wrote all this stuff it is obvious that they not developing this game because they're loving or it or because of inspiration anymore. Main goal: proffit, Target: mmorpg players(not sci-fans, just an average L2, wow players). So they're doing the same thing as the 98% of the other game companies - look at the other proffitable games and try to make something like that. That why all of MMORPGs now is all the same. The only thing that still differs this game from the others is earlier achievents, when they're been interested in the game itself. But it won't be helping forever.

in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. I'm not a teenager, how would i like it much?

Where some see doom, others see hope.
There is one axiom NASA was always big on that is good to mention at times like this:

COMPETITION
BREEDS
EXCELLENCE

Where you see games that can kill eve,
I see ingenuity that will only drive eve to become better.

Well, i'm not quitting game as far as there will be a skill queue and SP is not affected by online hours. I've activated my trial 6 years ago because of that and i'm still here because of it.

Although i'm not playing, just sitting on station... Well, at least they're gave me the sofa for this :)

Of course i will be happy to see EVE to grow, but i don't see it now. And all i can do is try to kick some dev's asses on the forums... What else. If there will be shares that i can buy to support the development of new areas of this game, i'll do it...

Now i know why the game looks so good, it's using the Crytek 3 game engine wich oddly enough is used for first person shooters, but seems to be working just fine in a space sim...A few facts follow:

The main carrier seen in the demo is a model with 7 million polygons and running in real time, and the fighters are 2 million polygons each with the pilot model using 30 000 polygons and the game engine supports tesselation natively, so it's DX11 exclusively.

They're aiming pretty high as the poly counts can go up quite considerbly if it's a large battle, and still running real time so it's no wonder it'll need a high end PC to run it, period.

From RPS.

It’s a different level of scope [than EVE]. That’s why it’s called ‘Star Citizen’ and not ‘Earth and Empire’ or something. It’s more about that personal view than some big political campaign.”

Intriguing.

I haven't been in any 1000 ship fights in eve recently, but it was never a smooth and lag free experience anyhow the few times that i did, so if the fights in star citizen max out at 100 pilots in a single fight, and still remain at decent FPS levels and lag free, i can easily live with that.

The whole time slows down strategy used by CCP to manage those large flett fights sounds completely unrealistic though( just my thoughts)
