New Mining Rigs – The Neutralis Combine Links

Mining Rig – Small Neutralis Combine Link
Description: This ship modification is designed to increase the bandwidth of an ore hold link between a Hulk and an Orca or Rorqual at the expense of decreased cargo hold. Can only be installed on an ORE mining frigate.

Mining Rig – Medium Neutralis Combine Link

Description: This ship modification is designed to create an ore hold link between a Hulk and an Orca or Rorqual at the expense of decreased cargo hold. Can only be installed on Hulk.

Mining Rig – Large Neutralis Combine Link
Description: This ship modification is designed to create an ore hold link between a Hulk and an Orca or Rorqual at the expense of decreased cargo hold. Can only be installed on Orca or Rorqual.

The idea here is that these ship modifications, used on mining barges and Industrial Command and Capital ships, would facilitate automatic transport/delivery from barge to storage (Orca/Rorqual) thus creating the ultimate harvesting tool. Obviously, ships would not be able to support full bandwidth delivery, thus slowing down the overall ore delivery. The new Ore mining frigates, with the small Neutralis Combine Link, could be used to compress the ore before it hits reaches storage, thus reducing bandwidth requirements and increasing overall ore delivery ore.

While I think the idea is great, I understand it needs improvement. I do like the idea of Frigates increasing bandwidth for delivery, maybe not for ore compression, but I couldn't think of a better way to state 'how' less bandwidth would be required. It also means the Small Neutralis Combine Link would need a dedicated module for the blueprint/compression. Maybe they would work as links so an Orca would be able to compress ore and maintain the small ore hold it has been given.

Routing setup would be similar to PI.

For the discriminating corporation who has active people, this setup would be awesome.

No.....

I'm all for rigs to increase the size of the ore-bay... but it needs to be at expense to tank.... not cargo hold....

Give it real drawback, like -10% shield resists, and then you'll have my support.

i'm sorry, but weren't ore holds specifically designed to not be modifiable for balancing reasons?

-10% Shield resists only makes it easy to gank, which is all fine and dandy, but I believe if this setup was employed, the miner would need a drawback that would make it increasingly difficult to automate. Maybe shields and cargo. Mining Crystals take up a lot of space, which is why I gave initial thought to cargo space on the mining barge.

At any rate, a hit to shield resists would be fine.

Nowhere did I address adjusting the size of the ore holds. I did recommend using frigates as dedicated ore compression engines to sit between the Hulk and Orca compressing ore as it moves to the Orca. Obviously the time to compress the ore might take longer than it does to collect the ore -- and could be completely addressed by the rig's skill level as an additional penalty -- that is if you're looking for penalties to balance things. Range between ships could also be a similar requirement.

I'm merely trying to create a similar routing as exists in PI for mining in the belts.

I like the idea, but I do have a concern; Wouldn't this make it easier for the bots? It's essentially rewarding automated gameplay.

Question my good man... by link, I assume you refer to fleet bonus...

If a link... why not a module ala ship bonus for some ships i.e compression on a rorq.... applicable to [insert ship range here]....provided a certain module be fitted and activated etc... Why did we go the link route and not a module/ship bonus route? How would being in a fleet magically refit my insides of my ship?

I'm not opposed to the idea... but its not registering on an emotional level either. It would be the same functionality as a rorq, for sub capitals... in hi-sec... allowing more ore per m3 than with the existing wonderland of mining we already got with the mining patch.

Do you want 1 isk p/u of tritanium days forever.... You know?

Methinks miners are gonna have a bad time coining it in the long run with this.

I had that thought as well

But then I considered that the default for the ore at present is the ore bays anyway on barges and exhumers... this suggestion would just add to the problem by adding fully bott-able Orcas to the mix (which they should be already once setup in a fleet)... speeding up the problem will just shorten the anticipation before the sky falls.. or the price crashes... whichever..
