What was CCP's incentive for the gun scaling change?

I recently noticed that turrets have had their size scaling changed (probably in the new turret animation/model expansion). For example, autocannons on my 2007 Rifter were this big, whereas the autocannons on my current wolf are much smaller. They've been resized to the point when they're barely visible.

I, for one, think the bigger turret models made much better impression, as well as making the ships look more menacing.

If only the mining lasers would scale too...

To stop all the ships looking like they were drawn by anime artists I guess?

I still think titans should be at least twice the size they are now.
Maybe if I say it enough times CCP might think it's a good idea.
May have to covertly switch their brownies at a luncheon with a "hashed out" version.

It´s not just a question of aesthetics (guns look so ridiculous small on bigger ships), but small guns (of any size) make it more difficult to identify them on enemy ships.

The rifter was made bigger, the turrets are the same size, dunno why.

In hindsight my post should have had more psssshhhh

It's part of the cutbacks due to the economy.

Pixels aren't cheap ya know.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

The Rifter hull was enlarged to fix some clipping issues with the turret models, I believe.

I never noticed any clipping before, or if I did, I didn't care.

Please CCP, make the Rifter it's old size again. It looks stupid now.

Pretty please.

Honestly, the scaling of the guns is completely wrong to begin with. They need to be redone entirely or the names changed so that an 800mm autocannon actually represents something that would be 800mm in size. Either way...they looked absolutely idiotic with how big they were before. I like them much better now. Now you have a ship with guns instead of guns with a ship.

Frankly, after V3ing is complete I'd like to see a complete work over done on all the different sizes of both ships and visible modules. While they are at it, we could use a few more modules actually be visible (Nos, Neuts, remote modules of various flavors, any other high slot items).

It would have been nice to have a few special hard points on the ships for other modules as well (Webs, Scrams) but I understand that would involve a LOT of reworking of the hull models.

I know a lot of work will be scheduled after V3 on lighting effects, new paint jobs, etc. but this is a basic underlying annoyance that might be more easily dealt with at the same time.

Titans' sizes are fine - any larger and they'd be unwieldy behemoths that bump everything in sight. Supercarriers need to be scaled up, however.

CCP did not make the rifter bigger, CCP made the universe smaller. Rifter is a constant.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Yep, and regular Cap ships as well... along with several battleships.

The distances we work with in EVE are not kind to achieving a proper sense of scale as well. This is just one more subtle justification towards incorporating a formation system into EVE.

You might want to consider the ships are more or less 80 meters long, and those guns would have been quite massive with that in consideration. Also, they made the ship look puny by comparison. I like the new change.

You have to remember that a battleship is roughly a kilometre long. Even an 800mm gun is going to look pretty small against that.

Then change the name. If it isn't actually 800mm but more like 3500mm...then so be it.

I was honestly surprised to realize SCs are not that much larger than normal carriers, compared to the other "supercapital" class, the Titan which is massive.
