Most likely they are EVE FCs. Similar thing happened in Star Trek Online (from what I read ... honestly). During the first fleet fights, the fleets that used EVE tactics (primary one ship, keep the fleet together) won with ease.

It's worth noting that one of the guys working on Planetside 2 is an EVE player and has given interviews to the mittani.com and done an AMA on reddit and what not to promote his game.

Don't ask for sources, just believe me.

It's you isn't it.

I can tell.

Ok - but then it depeds on the definition of 'traditional'. Up until the early nineties, the hand-holding approach was very rare.

I remember an interview with Peter Molineux, who was a game-dev icon back then for having done the populous series where he mentions that he realized that people dislike losing in games, so they should be kept safe from that.

Not calling him responsible, but that's where game-design started a steep downhill slope from my perspective - you could intentionally try to lose a game and you still wouldn't run at risk of losing the game.

I can see how someone who started playing games in that era would view that as 'traditional', but just FYI, Computer games used to be remotely challenging and punishing 2 decades before that.
