BPFs - Blue Print Facsimile

In a nut shell:
BPFs would be BPCs you can research.
BPFs could have pieces broken off to make BPCs.
BPFs would replace Invention, LP store, loot drop BPCs.
BPFs would NOT be made from BPOs.



Part of the problem with T2 PBCs from invention is the ME. If you could research those BPCs, it would help. IMHO, you should not be able to research BPCs from a BPO; BPCs from any other source you should be able to. To distinguish them, I think those "Non-BPO BPCs" should be BPFs.

Research can be very cheap in some stations. You have to wait a month or so, but the cost itself can be worth it. More use of this ISK sink is a good thing in itself. For a POS, I’m not sure, but not needing as much trit should be logistically helpful.

Btw, if you don't like the fax name, replica "BPR" or Duplicate "BPD" also work.



On a side note, I think invention base ME of BPCs should be buffed to unresearched BPO created BPCs (ME zero). Decryptors should also be buffed and more added, esp. for multiple copies. There has been a half decade to make up the cost of T2 BPOs. It is time for Invention to take over in terms of efficiency. (I personally don't think T2 BPOs should be made into BPFs, but yes, the T2 BPO lynch mob will clamor.)

A couple quick points:

You will never be able to compete with researched T2 BPO holders on low-demand items... If the demand is too low, then the t2 BPO producers can fulfill the entire market needs, and they don't need to produce the T2 BPC. Producing that invented BPC is a big cost.

The ME level in T2 Production, be it -4 or +40, only has a significant impact on production costs for Ammo and Ships (typically). The production difference between ME -4 and PerfectME on say, a Neutron Blaster Cannon II is only 150k isk out of 3.5+m isk (<5%). Its the cost of creating the T2 BPC (300-750k isk or more) that results in the significant price differences between invention vs BPO producers.

For Ammo, the ME level plays a huge role in production cost differences (50% price differences), and this is also true for many ships.

In short, I'm not 100% certain what you are suggesting. It sounds like you want to create researchable, consumable BPF's. These would be purchased from ??? NPCs ???.... and somehow replace the invention process.

IMO, a much simpler is available:
1.) Alter decryptors to transfer x% of the BPC's ME/PE level onto the resulting T2BPC. This would allow people that research up their BPO's to benefit from it. I think this would play a big role in T2 Ammo production.
2.) Alter the base number of runs on invented ships from 1 to 5. This would effectively reduce the cost of invented T2 ship BPC's, allowing them to compete a little better on marginal items.
