PI- Looking for harsh criticism

Okay, I have read a few guides on PI, but I have learned most of this on my own mistakes. I have developed a possible way that Tier 1 planetary extraction is beneficial. I currently have four planets that all extract and process pure water and I make about eight million ISK a day from pretty much doing nothing expect a few clicks of the mouse everyday.

I will be experimenting with much higher tier stuff after I get my planetary skills so i can do an extra planet.




Step 1: Extract aqueous liquids

Step 2: Send the aqueous liquids to the processors to make water. I divide the amount extracted by each processor by four and send an equal amount from each extractor to each processor.

Step 3: Send the water to the launchpad.

I am looking for criticism how to maximize profit and minimize waste. Now I KNOW I am not the best at this because there is someone better at it than me. Please butcher away at my plan for Tier 1 extraction and processing. Also, I am looking for recommendation on apps for PC for PI.

Your link doesn't work.

Anyway, don't just divide the income from each extractor by four. Rally to a storage (extractors output every hour, basic factories run twice an hour, direct links waste an entire cycle on top of dumping excess). Each Basic factory uses 6000 T0 materials an hour. Plan your layout accordingly.

Sorry that my photo is not working. I trid to load in it Firefox and it did not work, but it worked while I was signed in to Flickr with Chrorium.

Also, thank you for the advice. I am testing it right now.

That did it! Tested all installations after six hours. All are running at 100% and average of about 100 units of aqueous liquid in the storage facility. It is now 0.27% waste!

Program length: 2 days, 3 hours.

Two extractors with four surveyors each, linked to one storage facility which then goes to four basic industry facilities, then 80 water goes to the launchpad each half hour.

Its also going to be easier to use the Customs office, though it might not be quite as cheap the simplicity is the benefit. If your going to be using another world to make higher tier stuff, then you need to get familiar with it. Based on your opinion of lowsec, it can be better to operate in those systems if you know what you are doing.

Sorry you said launch pad, so I was thinking of the rockets.

One other thing, to get some more pg/cpu on each planet you can use the spaceport structures as storage as well.

Never send from extractor to factories, always send to a storage / launch pad.

Personally water is one of the least profitable P1 items you can extract and sell. BUT! it is one of the few P1 mats that can be turned into a P2 on any planet it is found on. So if you're on a temperate, ocean, Ice or barren you can do Water + Bacteria, or on barren, gas or storm you can make water-cooled CPU's, and so on.

A better option would be to have your planet have 1 launch pad, 1 or 2 advanced factories and 1 storage silo to store water in the silo. Then each day you reset your cycles or extractors check for any hot spots / good extraction spots for the corresponding P2 mat. If you don't find any good spots continue with water, otherwise change your factories/extractors to the corresponding P2 requirement and extract that. You'll generally have several days of stockpiled water for 1 or 2 advanced factories.

Storm planets are great for P2 since you can create water-cooled CPU's, Electrolytes and superconductors, and water is so damn easy to extract in large quantities since its always abundant.

You'll see a sizable increase in isk doing this approach.

You clearly havent checked the markets lately.
Water is a good resource for high sec PI on sone planets

Why use a storage facility at all?

I route everything through the launch pad. It saves on energy use which allows me to have more extractor heads working at once.

The only reason I can think of is if your incoming resources would overwhelm the launch pad a storage facility would give you an extra buffer.

Just to reinforce what everyone is saying: extractors to launch pad, launch pad to processors, processors to launch pad, launch pad to customs office, customs office to market.

That way you don't need to try to balance the extractors at all. They dump into storage and storage sorts it out.

Because if you have high yield planets you do not want to haul every other day. It also allows you to not destroy P1 materials that are manufactured if your storage limit reaches maximum. Also if you are doing P2 manufacturing it allows you to stockpile more of a single material allowing you to now swap out factories every other day.

I have 50 P1/P2 planets and every one of them has a storage silo. Not only is it nessassery on planets that do P2 manufacturing but it allows me to only need to haul materials every 5 days instead of every 2 days.

Water cooled CPUs don't sell well and have a low market price, so I dumped that project and made it a water source now.. Having great luck with superconductors though.

I would love to sell coolant, but so far, haven't had great luck finding abundant ionic solutions

Why two extractors with so few heads? The only reason to do that is if you're making P2, and want a low-maintenance, low profit setup. If you're updating every two days or more often, definitely have one extractor and more heads. At *least* five heads per extractor unit. Heads = income.

Ionics are one of the most troublesome raws to get. They only come form gas and storm worlds, and storms can be hard to find in clusters. I've used storms a lot, but I always seem to end up hunting for one small diameter gas world after I run out of storms. If you use a gas, build right at one of the poles, then you can get to the whole ring of ionics with fairly uniform extractor distances.

The whole launchpad thing is confusing... it is called a spaceport in some places, but a launchpad in the Build menu. Except you do launches from the CC. And the silo is called storage, except you store things in the spaceport first... arrrr. So yeah, store things in the building with 10K space that lets you use the CO. Build a silo if you want to do CO transfers less often.

Never use 2 extractors. It is a huge waste of powergrid. Instead do P1 cycles every few days, and swap out to the 2nd P1 whenever hot spots or when you can get a descent yield. Setup a silo and just extract each P1 one at a time. Your yields will increase dramatically.
