Grid Not Loading Glitch

An Epic Battle awaits you as a brave pilot. You and your fleet jump into the next system where the hostiles will soon be. But as you get through you realize. Nothingness. The overview shows nothing. Your fellow pilots are not appearing on the other side. You cannot warp to anything, you cannot approach anything you cannot see your own ship. You check your internet connection, and it's fine.

After you quit game and restart your client, you return. You receive an automatic fleet invite and you land back on grid where your friendly fleet once was, only to realize that now countless hostiles are jumping in and their fast tackle has your battlecruiser already scrammed. You fight for your death but die.

This is one of the worst case scenarios of this glitch.

I hope something is being done to fix this kind of problem, i couldn't find anything about it anywhere.

This happens to me too, mostly at random. I would say maybe 1 time out of every 20 or so major gate jumps or titan bridges with a large fleet. It REALLY sucks.

CCP is excellent at bringing back past glitches. Problem is, they probably didn't mean too......Oops

Good old times ... they seem to be coming back.

We used to tell pilots to turn off brackets and effects to prevent this, then we told them to use ctrl+alt+shift+m to check if grid was loading. But this was back in the days. The question I ask today is; Are the problem located Client side or Server side. Would such preventive acts help in lowering the occasion of a failed grid load?

Currently grid not loading and the following relog is more of a ship killer then actual combat I think Roll

It's the blob warfare nerf everyone is asking for.

Working as intended. :)

This is such a stupid bug. When it happens it tends to happen to several people at the same time (my favorite line in mumble is "20 people just DC'd at the gate") and while I haven't personally lost a ship to it, I know plenty of people who've lost pricey ships in this manor.

yes it is a very real problem, and when it doesn't happen to me, i die a little inside when we all jump and i see multiple fleet members bracket color indicators turn blue and green and warp off in random directions.

I venture to speculate this problem is caused server side where the server doesn't tell a handful of pilots the info that their client needs to know. But it could be a combination of both. It's certainly not the player's side since all too often we're still all connected in voice communication reporting it... lameness man.

I think I hate this grid-no-load glitch more than the "oh look these friendlies that just landed on grid are neutral for all of us lets alpha them..." a moment later "stop shooting they're blue!!" overview-standings glitch.

FLEET, JUMP
STARBURST FORMATION, GO

Anyway yeah, this is a pretty ******** bug, especially considering CCP hasn't said anything about it. It's almost as bad as the overview no standings bug.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

This issue had been reported in the Issues, Workarounds and Localisations forum section a few times now. I remember when it happened to me around the end of 2011, CCP responded by saying that it was a server-side issue related to clock drift. From my limited understanding it is a sync issue that makes the client clock move slower than the server clock (or server going faster? Or was it slower... neh you get the general idea). When this gap gets bad enough, you get stuck in a session change playing catchup with the server. To me, this would suggest that every session change you would have progressively worse loading time each jump/session change as opposed it happening after seemingly completely normal functioning, but yah...

Other theories started being thrown about: a) multiple clients vs one client; b) being in large fleets vs solo; c) regional session changes only; d) GFX settings, graphic cards, OS; e) geographical location of the clients etc, in an attempt to explain the issue. Suffice to say, there did not appear to be any, or perhaps there were too many client-sided variables, that could explain what was happening.

Apparently a fix was released in early 2012 that made the server clock refresh at a faster rate. This did not alleviate the problem for many people, or me for that matter, so I utilised an outside program aimed at forcing a client-server refresh/ping every 10 mins to reduce the clock drift. This actually fixed the problem for me. Having said that, others 'fixed it' by reinstalling/upgrading windows, not running multiple clients or staying away from big fleets... while others have never fixed it at all no matter what they tried to do.

Good luck with it and check out this topic(s) for some more information:

hey guys!

Unfortunately we have still no clear picture on what is causing (a good part of) these grid not loading issues. As I posted in the linked thread: Please write bug reports about it, optimally with a log from logserver.exe (warning: running logserver might cause additional lag during fleet fights). The more detailed bug reports we have the likelier we can find the reason for the problems.

Btw: We'll probably also have a look at this issue in the upcoming mass test this week (hopefully I can squeeze it in somehow).

Ha, knew I'm not alone! (Can I have my Hound back now? Pretty please?)

Anyway, having been on the receiving end of this glitch I can say it happens most often when switching regions, and more often when you're among the last ones to jump through. Brackets or Overview Profile don't really matter in this case.

It usually happens when big fleets are present nearby, but I've seen it happen when something smaller than a blob jumps through - for instance, a small group jumping into a big blob already present on the grid can suffer from this issue.

Interestingly, the presence of the ship is still recorded as in the system and on grid. You can't warp yourself, but you will be fleetwarped, so the server does seem to register your presence in the system. It would seem the client is a bit confused on the matter.

Also unsub, all my fortune shall be given to the families of ganked miners. ("All my fortune" does, in fact, include a vast storage of empty alcohol bottles and gambling debts.)

i had that issue only while in fleet with more then 30 people jumping through a gate

following steps i tried to fix it in this order

- delete the extra data (logfiles)
- disable saving logiles
- running the eve repair file
- running it again
- changing fan setting to keep the processor and gpu cooler
- changing video settings to minimum, settings of the card to performance, VSYNC on
- changing to full screen (from fixed window)

the next patch there was an issue with the installing

- ran repair file again

never had the issue again, before i had it 1/10 jumps with the fleet

it seems it can be fixed, not sure what exactly fixed it

also pressed the "clear cache button" a few times, but i am sure everybody did that
