Only reason for CCP to step in would be if plex prices were too low - the higher the better for them...

Why?

Because people are more likely to buy plex from CCP if they receive lots of isk for them.

Well - that's what the price balances around, but CCP could care less what happens to plex once they're ingame - they don't earn money from ingame plex sales anymore, besides botters will always buy plex - doesn't matter if they have to sacrifice 2 hours or a day of bot-time if the other 29 days are pure profit...

13 plex for €199 is not good value

2 plex (1x 60 day gtc) from shattered crystal cost me €27

€27 x 7 = €189

i get 1 more plex for €10 less using shattered crystal.... also i get 50milx 3 + 250mil x1 (400 mil) somer blink credit if i do via somer blink website

now if ccp upped it to 15 plex for €199 then i might be tempted

Looking at the GTC forum, buys are running 10:1 vs sells. Used to be pretty even. But I also noticed that the GTC prices on the forums are lagging in-game PLEX prices.

PLEX going for 410-415 in-game, but GTC selling for about 800 in forums.

It's looking like a scarcity lowering of supply, which I would read as fewer people buying GTCs. Those people are the "whales" to CCP...people who pay to play the game and also pay for isk. Losing them is a 2-for-1 loss to CCP.

Or...perhaps there's a glut of isk in the game...no need to purchase isk.

Could be 6 or 8 different causes. Nothing to panic about yet....if you like grinding for your gametime, you get to grind a little bit more now.

nope for eu ppl buying from ccp directly its €199

as shattered crystal is in usa i can buy gtc at usa prices not eu prices which works out at about €189 for 14 plex

Yeah...it's CCP that's 'forgetting' to do the conversion.

The acct mgmt site is localized, so I only see the offer as $US199. If Europeans see it as EUR199, then yeah...that's a bit of a difference. Should be closer to EUR143, in a direct exchange.

Plex prices are not necessarily related strictly to supply and demand.

There is a bit of currency speculation that also affects Plex to ISK to RL currency values.

The perception of what ISK should be valued by those trying to purchases it through Plex also influences the rise of Plex prices. While the perceived value of personal/free time influences the fall of Plex prices.

With winter coming and all the students spending more and more of their free time grinding ISK instead of spending time out doors in the cold. Also an influx of players coming back to see if the winter expansion will be an improvement after the last disaster that was the last expansion. Plex prices were bound to rise.

You're right - forgot about CCPs ridiculous pricing strategy compared to third party retailers when it comes to conversion rates - never bought a GTC directly from CCP in all these years due to that, so I forgot ^^

I don't follow. What's stopping Euro customers from buying from Shattered Crystal again?

I buy from retailers outside my home country all the time.

There also this effect: Lets say I want to buy a 1.2 billion isk item and have no isk. I use PLEX. If a PLEX sells for 400 million I get 3 of them. But if its 300 million I need to get 4.

So for someone like me a lower PLEX price results in increased sales for CCP.

My guess is CCP has alot of data on just what is a good PLEX price range.

nothing is stopping us but the 13 plex for $199 from ccp directly is only open to usa residents.

for ppl in eu we get directed to ccp's eu sales point which charges €199 for 13 plex

i use shattered crystal via paypal cos instead of me paying €34.99 per gtc i pay $34.99 which in euros is 25.2217 EUR

which is even cheaper than paying by credit card which for the same 60 days game time costs eu players 29.98 EUR

and my point was the 13 plex for €199 is not good value when i can buy 14 plex for €176.55 from the usa via shattered crystal

EDIT: actually its even cheaper $34.99 x 7 gtc (14 plex) = 244.93 USD = 176.552 EUR

if I buy from ccp directly as an Eu citizen i get 13 plex and it will cost me 199.00 EUR = 276.073 USD

for 3.19 USD more i can buy 8 gtc or 16 plex if i buy off shattered crystal in usa 279.92 USD = 201.773 EUR

yup thats a difference of 3 extra plex for 2.773 EUR more by buying from shattered crystal for EU players

ALSO worth noting is if u buy the 16 plex (8 gtc) from shattered crystal via somer blink's igb site u get 500mil somer blink credit FREE

conversion rates from XE money conversion

You're certainly right about the fact that there must be some sweet spot Plex price for maximum GTC sales, but I think it was always way below that.

Of course that's pure speculation, but if CCP were really worried about isk inflation, they wouldn't have added another massive isk faucet with inursions earlier this year.

GTC forum had always better price, cause you don't buy GTC, you buy gametime only.
you don't received the items, you receive the time itself.
you can't sell them, you can't exchange them to plex, you can't do anything.
GTC forum is pure gametime, nothing else.
plexes are more, and so are more expensive.
