Just wondering how this mechanic works since I have never ran my own POS before.

Is it "X # of blocks per day" or "X # of blocks per module usage"

?

I checked under some of the POS info pages on the Evelopedia, but I did not see any attribute that stated how much fuel was used, nor any mechanic to calculate the usage amount. I also did not see any such statistic under the individual POS modules either.

FC, what do?

Blocks per day. Even if you have no modules/arrays onlined.

Small POS - 10 blocks/hr
Med. - 20 blocks/hr
Large - 40 blocks/hr

At least with blocks it's easier to figure how much you'll need. In the old days you had to track each separate component and it's relative quantity. It was a giant PITA. You use less fuel with pirate faction towers than with normal racial towers, but pirate towers also cost a lot more.

And don't forget the stront for the stront bay. It's not consumed like fuel is, but if your tower gets attacked, it'll get consumed when your tower goes into reinforced mode, and the length of time you stay in reinforced mode is determined by the strontium clathrates you have. So keep that bay topped off at all times.

Also, if you're in hisec you also need starbase charters.

It's fuel blocks and if in highsec starbase charters by the hour. Modules have nothing to do with the calculations, tower consumes the same fuel regardless of the actual CPU and PG load. That being said, some modules have their own consumables that they need to operate and get stored in the module itself. Guns require ammunition and jump bridges need Liquid Ozone. I don't think anything else requires fuel or resources.

If you do a show info on the tower in question there will be a tab with fuel requirements listed. You also need to fill the tower with Strontium, but that only gets used if its attacked and reinforced. As for calculating usage amount the fuel block system makes things pretty easy.

Blocks Used = (Blocks per Hour) * (Hours of Operation)

When I've had to fuel towers I would fill the tower up to the brim, but I always calculate costs and usage on a 30 day month. 30 days times 24 hours per day, gives a 720 hour cycle. So for a large tower which uses 40 blocks per hour...

Blocks Used = 40 * 720 = 28,800 blocks.

Thanks, not sure how I missed this. Maybe CCP should add this link to the POS info page! Big smile

For what it is worth:

All standard control towers hold 700 hours (29d 4h) of fuel blocks, or 699 hours of fuel blocks + charters (29d 3h), and 41 hours of strontium (1d 17h).

And it appears the total cost of running a Tower (large) is about 400 to 450m isk per month, so this is no small investment.
