Factional Warfare - how soon?

Hi,

Just joined today (on a buddy invite trial) and am going through the combat tutorials and enjoying them very much. I like the idea of factional warfare for it's seeming mix of PVE and PVP. Would it be too soon to join after the military tutorials? Should I do some missions first? Is there anything else I should do to prepare before joining?

As I am Gallente, do I have to join on the side of Gallente? Can I support their allies, the Minmatar, later?

Any advice, tips, etc, greatly appreciated.

Loving the game so far!

Character race affects very little. Standings is what matters.

If you want to do fw then do it. Worst case scenario is you learn which skills you need to achieve your goals. Most important is making a connection with other people, to earn the trust of a corp to fleet with.

Edit: my philosophy for life in general is if you want to do something badly enough to act on it, then do it right away. Every day you procrastinate and agonize over it, the less likely you will ever do it. Or as captain ron says, if anything's going to happen it's going to happen out there.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

Wait you can enlist for other factions militas.

yes. You can enlist with any militia provided that you have a standing with that faction of 0.5 or above (IIRC) ... or the token you get at the end of the tutorials...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Thanks Guys, replies appreciated.

Just starting the advanced military tutorials now...so will dive into a war straight after!

I am going to fight for Gallente - any recommendations for the best ship given that my skills are still very low?

Erm, if your going to fight for gallente I suppose that makes us sworn enemies. I hear the catalyst is a very effective PvP boat

FW could potentially be a great place for you to learn EVE while earning isk, shooting people and generally having a blast.

Catalyst is a fine choice of ship to initially get good in. I stayed in the minmatar equivalent (thrasher) for 3 months training how to pew, earning isk and generally having good times. Still my fave ship and its my fall back ship of choice if I don't know what ship to fly :)

Shame I've got to shoot you though, sworn enemy and all that :P
