Hello,

I'm moving to nullsec to start ice mining there. The system I'm going to be in will have Gelidus & Smooth Glacial Mass however i don't see anyone really buying that ( I'm at work now, was checking on http://eve-central.com/.

Is it just a glitch on the website, or there is no real demand for those ?

Beside of that, which of the following ores is most valuable - Bistot, Hedbergite, Hemorphite, Scordite, Spodumain, Veldspar, Gneiss, Omber ?

Thanks :)

Ice is heavy, check the prices on the refined materials.
Plenty of guides and sites telling you what stuff is worth.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

So I assume I will have to skill Ice processing ASAP.

I've read that Bistot is quite valuable, about 2.8k per piece (16.0m3), that's a lot, lot more than Veldspar. However, I might be wrong...

At 1000 m3 per cube, Ice is really hard to move in its raw form. As such, people tend not to buy it in that form...except maybe locally in an ice belt system to profit from people who can't refine it properly.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

My god, I noticed just now that after refining the contents weight a ton less. So far I've been always selling it's raw form, due to not having any refining skills. Getting to Ice Processing will take me a month or so though. I've read on a forum that getting 0% waste will need Ice Processing II, is that information still actual or do I need to skill it further ?

depends on other skills, and the station refinery.

I *believe* that Ice proc 2 is sufficient in a 50% base station.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Looking at my indy char, I can say it must be correct.

You need:
Refining 5 (2% per skill level so 10% reduction in waste)
Refinery Efficiency 5 (4% per skill level so 20% reduction in waste)
Ice Processing 1 (5% per level so 5% reduction in waste)

This gives a total reduction of 35%

Equation to assist(From: http://wiki.eve-id.net/Equations#Trade_Equations)

Effective Refining Yield = Station Equipment Yield + 0.375 * (1 + (Refining Skill Level * 0.02)) * (1 + (Refining Efficiency Skill Level * 0.04)) * (1 + (Ore Specific Processing Skill Level * 0.05))+Implants

So if station equipment yield is 50% you get:
= .50 + .375*(1+.1)(1+.2)(1+.05)+0
=.50+.375*1.1*1.2*1.25+0
=1.01975 or 100.1975% The ceiling is 100% so there you go.

with no processing skill, you max out at 99.5% refine.
add in a 3% hardwiring and you get to 100% no processing skill needed.

This applies to all of the other Industry "Processing" skills.
Now if you are in a 30% station, you need to have the processing skills to 5 just to get 91.875%. Add in an implant like the Zainou Beancounter Refining RX-804 for 3% bonus and bump that to 94.875%.

Thanks, highly appreciated. Just changed my new goal to get Ice Processing then, another 3 weeks of skilling before me to get to the goal ;)

Just a tip for when you're mining.

Price per unit isn't as important as price per m3. As you don't mine a consistent number of units. you do mine a consistent volume.

For what it is worth, you need ice processing 4 for compressing ice with a Rorqual. There is no good reason to ever train ice processing higher.

Also remember that POS refining arrays are ideal for refining ice, unlike ore, so there is no reason to refine ice at substandard facilities.

He is correct. POS refining arrays do generate 25% waste with ore refining, but there is 0% waste with Ice. So refining array is the way to go.
