Alright,
I have EFT, its awesome.
One problem,
Every time i log off, or shut the program down and start it up, or restart my comp, i lose the characters ive loaded.
Yes, i click the remember to click the "remember this character" option when i load the new character.

Is there a way to make it remember my toons, or is this a common problem

thanks

I like to have my cake and eat it too

YMMV, but I've never had that problem. Just select character from the drop-down menu and it's done. What?

Why in the world are you running EFT which hasn't been updated in how long? A year?

Google is your friend, and input PYFA for Python Fitting Assistant (I think)

It even imported my old EFT fits, with some errors but it has all the new stuff and works quite well.

When did they shorten years to three days?

Wow my bad. Last time I went looking for an update I found a year old post.

That's what I get for using the search function here I guess.

Anyway somebody in an NPC corp told me about PYFA and I love it.

Really worth looking at has some pretty cool features.

edit:

Also the wiki article still directs you to the old version, that confused me also.

Not dissing Gripens hard work at all. Still gonna use both of them. I just really like the ability to try out my fits against certain ammo types in PYFA.

Yeah I agree PYFA is a fairly good program. They both have round about the same things in them with a few small differences.
EFT has mining amount when you are fitting mining modules to a ship instead of dps. I wont go into everything else different.

I've never had the problem of the OP. Edit: I'd just offer the usual advice. Eg. have you tried reinstalling it?

That's one way, but it shouldn't be needed.

It sounds like it's not managing to save the character files, which does indeed indicate a permission problem. Check to make sure that the correct corresponding chr file is being generated in the EFT character directory.

As per Tippia, EFT stores all character details in a child folder called "Characters".
Check write permissions to where you have EFT folder stored.

Prefer EFT over PyFA mainly because of the easier UI. PyFA (last one I tried was 1.1) had teething UI issues and iirc had no real significant advantages over EFT in functionality. Dropped it when I discovered playing with ship fits entails a game of mouse olympics looking for the right module ... again .. and again ... and again .... one would ponder why it doesn't adopt a proven way of dealing with it as demonstrated by the EFT item history list (aka Recently Used).

OP here is your problem.

EFT for what I know is a Delphi program that stores data in the same folder tree where you installed it.

Depending on your computer Operating System (expecially Vista / Win 7) and where you installed it and depending on your account being Administrator or not, it will cause EFT to be unable to save where it wants to.

Basically if you cannot login in an admin account you have to reinstall EFT in a folder where write permissions are not enforced like where you installed it right now.

If program requires admin rights to work properly developer of said progam is very bad at programming or doesn't know standards.

You're probably best off not to give "advise" to others if you really think EFT hasn't been updated "in a year".

It has probably more to do with read/write user settings.

It's a fine software and for many, many years it's been the only accurate fitting tool.
If that makes him "very bad at programming", I invite you to code something better.

You have to realise that clowns and carebears would much rather blame "something else" than their own lack of effort&knowledge. See also ganking.

I had a friend who had this problem, dont think he fixed it either, but think when he updated to the next update of EFT it fixed it.
