Started getting frequent socket closed after inferno patch it seems. It happens pretty regularly now almost to the point where im thinking of canceling account until something is done for the game at this point is near unplayable consistently. Space is harsh enough without having to worry about a crash every time i undock. Been playing since 09 and NEVER had this issue until now. Nothing has changed in my setup since then. Alright time for my report.

Playing on Windows 7 (64)
I move my computer around a bit so I can give you some interesting results.

Firstly the socket closed error (SCE) mostly happens while I am on ADSL, I have almost never had the error on 3G.

Secondly the SCE happens more frequently while using my mates ADSL which is hosted at Internet Solutions (IS) than at my work place which is also running ADSL from IS.

Thirdly the SCE happens at my work place more frequently if I am tabbed out of the game than if I leave the game open.

Fourth is that on 3G (Vodacom) as I said I have almost never experienced the issue and I ran the 3G straight from my computer using a dongle, however now I am running the 3G threw a 3G router and now have encountered the error perhaps once every 3 or 4 days.

I did try many things on my computer to not have this problem (simple things at first, then VPNing afterwards) but most of it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Alright that is it, I hope this helps you guys solve this error.

For the last four days I have been able to play for hours without any problems whatsoever. Today the socket error returned. It is not my connection or my PC, I am 100% convinced. Everything else works flawlessly (other gamets etc) and EVE did the first two months I played. I have not intstalled/uninstalled any software or hardware nor have I changed any settings. I completely disabled my firewall but the problem remains.

As I've mentioned in a post I created recently, I also got the Socket Closed error last night. And ever since I can't even get to my character selection screen. It pops up everytime when my logon is 'Authencating'. Its been more than 13 hours now since it first started and I still can't log on.
I've gotten this error before, but normally only once or twice a week, which was still bearable.
But knocking me off for 13 hours straight is just crazy.

Here is the post I made where I describe it in more detail:

The last few weeks I have been getting around 10 + disconnects a day, Normally a few per hour.

I seem to disconnect quicker if I have two clients running at once.

My ISP is Virgin Media (UK)

It's driving me totally nuts.

I, too have had this socket disconnect problem occurring a lot recently. I am still learning a lot about all the technical information, as I don't understand what VPN, tracerts, etc are, so I don't have any real concrete information to add, other than I have been experiencing this in the past few weeks. In fact, I had my first one occur while I was in a PvP engagement, and so I lost my ship. I have had the socket disconnect running one account, running two accounts, and while doing a variety of activities, and I haven't identified a specific pattern. It only started for me in the last month. This has totally destroyed my enjoyment of the game, and am desperately looking for solutions. I don't run Steam (don't even know what that is), I don't run other programs while playing, and I have a fairly stable internet, Centurylink in Central Colorado. I have noted that it disconnects while I am engaged in something critical, like PvP or dual-box mining in low security space, and never while I'm updating PI or station trading. I suspect this is a coincidence, but am not sure.

Anyone else here running a torrent program? I was getting no socket errors yesterday, but was getting them every time I logged in today within minutes.

Since exiting my torrent program (uTorrent) I have not had a socket error in an hour. It may not be responsible, as it has previously always been on, when I've been getting the errors or not.

I'll update later if it's still stable.

Final edit: Left client running for 8 hours, no crash. Will try tomorrow and see if there is a difference having the torrent client active, then loaded but inactive.

This happens on my laptop. After awhile of playing, the game will crash with the error (Socket closed).

This happened on my old laptop too, but never on my desktop. Possible laptop only issue?

This has been a problem for me from the beginning, but tonight it has been absurd. I can't stay on for more than two minutes, if I can even log on at all.

I've had the socket closed issue too, but it's clearly because my internet connection had dropped. When I get the socket closed notification I usually try opening a browser. Firefox will try to go to my homepage but it won't find Yahoo for a few minutes until my internet connection has resumed. I'll turn and look at my modem, and I'll see that some of the normally green lights are either off or flashing meaning the modem is searching for an active internet connection. I haven't noticed a time when I got the socket closed message without a corresponding loss of my internet.

I did set my router to ask for a static IP address tonight. Maybe it'll keep my connection alive longer each day, but I doubt it. I've had the same IP address for at least the last 38 days. It can't hurt unless Comcast decides that I've had the address to long and fails to renew the address for me.

I started getting the error after patch 1.2.2. I never got this error before. I suspect patch 1.2.2 has something to do with this?

Problem is way out of control now. Cant stay connected more then 20 minutes at a time. No point in paying for this game anymore if its never gonna be fixed. And for those who think its my connection i play many mmo's(wow,bf3,cod)without a problem all day. Appareantly thye have no idea what to do to resolve this problem or they just assume let us who are having problems slowly go away one by one.

It's worth noting that I don't have any issues with anything else, not other games, not Webex/Teamviewer, not streaming, not downloading, etc. etc.

I'm also pretty irked at the way CCP has handled this - I've had a petition open for a bit more than four days with no response - not even a 'check the forums' or 'ask your ISP' brush off. Seriously - worst support of any MMO I've ever played.

We need some kind of official response here or something CCP. This is too widespread to be all the users faults. Especially when most us didnt have this problem then it reared its ugly head.

Its not because you run torrents because i never do and it happens to me.

Its not laptop/desktop specific it happens to both of mine.

Sometimes i can play for hours, sometimes minutes. usually its both my clients that drop. But the last few, have been just one of the two having SCE. So what the **** is up with that?

A little response here would be nice. Im certainly not gonna continue paying if this **** doesnt get fixed asap...
