Automatic Dir Scan

Dear CCP,

I am a new capsuler, trying to survive in this full-of-flying-sharks-world.

I understood how the Dir Scan is important and how it may save my ass when minning or missionning in low sec.

Great.

The problem is that I have to run it manually. And in order to have a chance to spot a combat probe before it being too late, every 20 seconds.

WTF ?

I am flying a fu...ing modern spaceship with a lot of complicated and sophisticated modules fitted in (including one that can turn my ship into invisibility Shocked), but I have to run the Dir Scan manually ?!? Every 20 seconds !!!

It's insane. And not very space opera-consistent.

Please, dear CCP, could you create a T1-non-expensive-no-skills-required-module that can make the Dir Scan automatic (with an alarm that ring when any probe or ship for exemple is spotted) ?

I thank you in advance.

Please apologize for my poor english, but as a lot of french people I suck in foreign languages.

Looking how to fly safer.

Weiz'

Use forum search and learn to fly spaceships.

Edit: the idea has been suggested before and shot down because it makes EVE way too easy. Part of being a good pilot is remembering to take care of the small things like dscan, checking optimal range, keeping transversal up etc. Having the game to do this kind of stuff for you is not only unfair to those people who have mastered l33t piloting skills, but it takes the fun out of the game.

You mentioned that the game has futuristic mechanics like cloaking. If this kind of mentality to make things more automated gets adopted, than you'll have people asking for the game to stop your ship and turn it around when you get too near to objects so you don't get decloaked (getting closer than 2000m to any objects turns off your cloak). Not gonna happen.

Always use forum search before posting, everything I wrote above is already present in a gazillion other threads and it just wastea everybody's time having to read through another useless thread.

Trust me, if you decide to stick long enough with this game, things like dscanning every 20 seconds will become so natural that you'll start yourself bashing other players who suggest auto-dscan.

If you're gonna post here thinking your idea is the greatest thing since bacon and that it will save EVE and possibly all humankind with it, you're gonna have a bad time.

You mean that it already exists ??

If it is the case, I am very sorry for this very useless post.

But could you please be more precise ?

I get your point of view. As a newbie I don't pretend to know how the game is / should be balanced. However, I can see that any good pirate can spot a ship missionning in less than 20 seconds . The D-scan, how it works, is quite useless against those pirates. Here is the "fun" of the game you seem to be satisfied with.

Next time, I will pay more attention to other topics before creating a new post. Being precised that this kind of search in english is quite uneasy. However, your patronizing tone, so Eve-ish, was not necessary.

Very very interesting. And much more sophisticated than my (poor) suggestion...

IMO we don't need an automatic dscan, what we need is a fun replacement for it. A radar... or anything which is not an spread sheet.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

There are a lot of things I want done to take tedious clicking out of Eve. Automatic dscan isn't one of them. It makes too many things too easy and takes the burden of attentiveness off the player. This is one instance where I believe you're better off hammering that dscan button every few seconds

Oh...and if you're only hitting it every 20 seconds, you're going to have a bad time. A skill prober will deploy probes outside your dscan range after using dscan to get an idea of where you are, set up a safe as close to you as they can, and drop probes around your approximate location. I've landed on someone less than 10 seconds after pressing the scan button.

automatic dscan once per minute is so useless, you dont even need to implement this.
But yeah, if it's gonna satisfy all those people whining about manual dscan, im all +++++++++++++++1
