Idea for abandoned POS tower removals. 1 ship, 2 modules, 1 consumable

(And no, the title isn't supposed to infer that one of the 2 modules is edible)

I posted this in the Wormholes forum, but I think this is probably a more appropriate place for it.

Currently we have the situation that wormholespace (and probably other places too) is littered with abandoned POS towers that can't be removed or stolen by anyone except the corp that built it, and take an age to destroy.

I propose 2 new modules (Demolition Charge Planter module / Charge Detonator module) along with 1 new ammo type for the Charge Planter: (Demolition Charge) and a new ship type to fit them on.

The ship would plant the Demolition Charge on the tower using Charge Planter module, and then after retreating to a safe distance, the charge would be detonated using the Charge Detonator module, destroying the POS in much the same way we get rid of large unwanted buildings in the real world.

Make the Charge Planter module highly powergrid-excessive and the Charge Detonator highly-CPU excessive in the way covops cloaks are highly cpu-excessive so that they can't just be fitted to any old ship, but then have a specific ship that gets a bonus for fitting them but has no / few other spare slots for tank etc. (Or if the CPU excessiveness is unrealistic for a simple detonator, maybe any ship in fleet should be able to detonate it once the Demolitions Ship has planted the charge).

Make it take a little time to work so that ship has to sit defenceless in space for 5 minutes (or whatever) while the charge is planted, after which the demolition can be triggered using the 2nd module, the Charge Detonator.

With the CPU / Powergrid needs being "excessive", people will be forced to use a Demolitions Ship for this task, leaving them vulnerable to ganking in the same way you would be if you were anchoring POS modules, or mining in a Barge or an Exhumer.

We only have one Tech 2 destroyer at the moment, so if those were chosen for the Demolitions Ships it would give people another reason to bother training up Destroyers to level V. Just an afterthought. Maybe a new ORE ship would be more appropriate.

This way, people will be able to remove unwanted leftover POS towers from their systems quickly and realistically.

I think abandoned structures belong to the harshness of wormhole space.
Even then, it doesnt take that long to take a tower down, if you really need it down. Also, the fact that it takes a while to destroy offline towers gives really paranoid corps means to defend their WH from invasion by placing a offline tower at each moon.

I'd much prefer to be able to simply take over an abandoned POS. With faction tower counts dwindling, it seems a shame to have to blow one up just to get at the pinata of goodies attached to it.

Hey I have an idea thats easy... Why does an offline unfuelled POS have a shield? If its offline remove the shield and voila..... no more offline POS issues

In highsec you can wardec, but ya, it takes awhile.

Heh, here is an idea: use a hacking module on it. >:P

POSes have armor and structure.

Id rather offline poses decay by 1%/day, or get bashed by rats.

the worst part of tower bashes is the shield buffer, thats the part that has resists and passive regen, if offfline towers didn't have this the few million hp in the armor and structure go pretty quick. nocking off the majority of the towers hp is great in my book, but id rather have one of the many hack offline tower options.
