Lots of truth in everything else you said, but I think we disagree on this part. EVE still offers what is by far the richest gameplay of any MMO in existence. Even years ago it was still light years ahead of where other MMOs are today. Where else can I go to get an EVE-like experience from an MMO? Somewhere incredibly player driven, single-sharded, science fiction simulator?

People will still be here until something else that offers this experience comes along and does it better.

EDIT: And by better I mean spectacularly better, not just a clone with a makeover.

That's the sore, Mechael... that EVE is the only one around so either you like its core gameplay or you quit... or you strive to expand the non-core gameplay in directions you like better. Failing that, what are we supposed to do?

The promise of doing the same old crap forever is not going to buy much sympathy from the "only game around" crowd. And CCP is to find how many of their subscribers belong to that breed in the next years, once everybody who thought that this game had anything else to offer find out that what we see is what it is and what will be in the next years.

With this and Egosoft shooting its foot with X Rebirth, freelancing space simulators have got about as much future as text adventures.

As i stated above, i never shared my ideas for WiS gameplay, so your attempts to characterise them a something not belonging to this game are merely flaming.

I would like this game to be truely awesome, and yet the likes of you have it gagged and condemned to be a magnificent piece of garbage, pride of vermins and beacon of MMO scumbaggery.

You know how this silence smells? Smells like WiS just has lost any chance to get a slot in the 2013 production schedule. Meaning that it will have to wait for 2014 unless a miracle happens.

But then, how long was the time between Apochrypha and the FiS debacle? 2 years?

And CCP's only chance is that in 2014, two years from now, the people who they pissed off one year ago still wlll be around to see them start working on WiS in a "meaningful" way so it delivers in 2015... FOUR years too late.

Come on. That will not happen, and no sensible corporate management makes plans for what will not happen.

The WiS train is gone. CCP's only chance was the fast and dirty way. 4 years after Incarna, there will not be anyone left to still care about WiS.

Ambulation became WiS became Incarna

This all began almost a decade ago and they still haven't produced anything besides a tiny room which makes tangible their failure. In four years at the rate this game evolves do you honestly believe ANYONE will be around? The only reason it lasted this long is because WoW was dominating the MMO market and new studios destroyed themselves trying to copy it. EVE existed as one of the few alternatives. But recently we've begun to see actual innovation in the genre. I just find the thought that people will be shooting red crosses in 2016 extraordinarily depressing. Because that's what you will/would be doing... there's no way you'll be immersed in WiS

I will believe in MMO innovation when i see it. It's pretty depressing to see how everything revolves around fantasy or high fantasy while "hardcore" SF lovers are cornered in EVE. Such a massive universe so full of posibilities and all we get from it it's shooting each other...

In that regard, Incarna just added insult to injury, cause we now can see how it COULD be, each time we log in... I mean, why even bother buying nice cloths in the shop, when there are no social hubs and bars to show them off... I'm all for shopping for shoes, mind you, but not THAT much.Roll

It is sad, because I remember when CCP said they wanted EVE to be a more rounded and immersive game play experience and that was why they were adding WIS - to make EVE a complete and whole MMORPG. Whatever happened to that vision?

Judging by the title, I wonder if it didn't start off there.

Didn't really want to start a whole new thread for this comment: Why is it that avatars in the CQ stare at themselves in the mirror constantly if it's in their field of view? The character is standing two feet away from a giant big screen flashing news (and in my case cut scenes from Mass Effect 2), but she's transfixed by the tiny bit of reflection visible in the mirror.

Is this some not-so-subtle commentary on the vanity of using the CQ? Or just "doggone it all, make 'em look in the mirror for the dadgum screen shot" programming that got a little too overriding?

Post with someone else's main™.

there was a dev who commented that a proto type was finished and he wrote up a dev blog meant to be posted over 6 months ago.

Now we just won't get it.

It's total BS

Oh, I am sure that they still hold to it. And that they will develop WiS when they are ready and can do it the way they want it. In that sense, the long term strategy is untouched, it would be too cruel to renounce to it.

What just happened is that the implementation of that strategy has fallen off the boat with not return date (as i already pointed after Fanfest, WiS didn't appeared to be in the 12/18 month development plans, and now it's 100% certain that it isn't).

After abandoning us with our silly clothes and our useless CQs, what remains now is that anytime when they are ready to implement WiS, it will be what they want (not what we want), and what the players want at that time (whoever they are).

As for WiS as the concept that started 6 years ago with a video of a guy meeting a gal and she boarding a ship and sailing to the unfriendly stars, that train is gone. And with it, also are gone any hopes that EVE still had to stop being a little niche game.

Yes, I kind of feel like that... I love to make my avatars look pretty, but what's the point?

it had a reason to be when our avatar was to be our personna ingame, with the consequences that it could have in player interaction. But now that, a), the avatars were to become walking bullseyes, and b), they're not going to comment on it any longer, it doesn't makes any sense beyond mere solipsism.

don't really care about morrons ou whatever calling WiS .. second life or what..

Like i Said I'm a Clone Driving, commanding a SHIP i'm not a Ship ...
So i want to go in structures sneak into them .. fire on some ennmies .. clones , or sleepers , or pirates or aliens don't care .. just F.... give Us DUST in space that it ... and just close your DUST 514 thing .. nothing more nothing less ..

and stop blablablabla about Bull... of second life , bar , etc etc

Need a Social Captain quarter for corporation and alliance and acces depending on standings ...

CCP it's time to remove Off Grid Boost and Put Them on Killmail too, add Logi on killmails .... Open that damn door !!

you shall all bow and pray BoB

That's a terrible idea. We need new players in the game, giving them immediate access
to avatars. We need to attack/coax new players with avatars and then get them to to
fluing in space, which they ofc will love.

But for the next 2+ years niche game will stay niche.

Will be intersting to see what kind of competition there is for games
that have both FiS and WiS. Entropia now has FiS, so I guess CCP
already falling behind.

I don't mind if you blog, as long as you don't blog out loud, Shepard.

Whether or not you win the game matters not.  It's if you bought it.
