Making a new thread for the new pyfa release as Kadeshi unfortunatly left the evefit team and can no longer maintain the thread. Enjoy the software folks :)

Where can I find the changelog between versions?

I love this! Much more info than eft and just looks cleaner.

One issue I have is there really needs to be Lines between highs, mids and lows. Or different shades of color behind them.

Bugs:

Blue pill not applying to ancillary booster
Tracking Links in 'Projected Effects' not correctly applying script type
Projecting the effects of a bonused ship ewar to another ship (eg bonused damps/tracking links) needs to be more intuitive (maybe right click menu like fleet booster)

Edit: updated to reflect post below

Copine Callmeknau disappeared one day now we are left with Taurich Vorsel AKA BIZARRO COPE!

No way to project the effects of a bonused ship ewar to another ship (eg bonused damps/tracking links)

For the third one: drag the ship in question from the ship browser to projected effects.
I'll look into the two others when I get home

Update: Changing DNS hosts, there shouldn't be any downtime, but in case there is, here's a headsup

At least on Sisi, core defense operational solidifiers does have effect on ancillary shield boosters.

This has been fixed yesterday, should be in the nightly builds already. It'll be in the next release.

Drag and drop isn't working for me. Can't fit/unfit anything. Question

Whether or not you win the game matters not.  It's if you bought it.

Ok folks, currently working on a sisi release of pyfa. It's almost done. To keep people waiting, here's the diff between tq & sisi: http://pastie.org/private/aizxxwosmnsgs6xkyqiw

ETA on the build: probably tomorrownight (25 juli)

Use doubleclick instead of DnD.

Some suggestions which have probably already been covered Big smile

1) Allow implants to be assigned to a character instead of just one fitting at a time

2) Separate the H, M & L slots. When they're filled with modules, there's no way to identify them other than knowing where the module is supposed to go - but when you have a 100+ fits like me, it's hard to remember all the low and mid mods.

3) Maybe make this a web browser application in the future so it can be accessed from anywhere, including iPads Lol

Keep up the good work, this getting to be my go-to tool.

Seriously? I just fixed those! Auuugh.
It'll be corrected in the release version. Thank you very much for bringing it to my attention.
Edit: Fixed.

You might be interested in this site, then. It's based off the same engine pyfa uses: http://osmium.artefact2.com/

That's a pretty nifty web site, thanks for the link. Not as good as Pyfa though Roll

It is rather difficult to get a browser app to compete with a local one. It's just a more restrictive environment, in general. While osmium is still in early development, I feel that it's already a great site. We're working on adding additional features all the time. :)

The tool looks promising but is unusable to me and reading the responses here I am not the only one though. And I am mad!

However I'll skip the trolling and give you some advice on how to make things better.

  • Add a FAQ section to pyfa's website. Clearly here are a lot of posts about pyfa failing to start properly or fetch character information.
  • Make your bug tracking system public (you have any, right?) and link to it. A lot of the people here are tech-savvy and able to report bugs properly. This will save you time. Time you could use making pyfa better, enjoying your real life or just playing EVE.
  • Troubleshooting, installation issues and workarounds are part of every decent project, which pyfa has the ambition to belong to. How to see what went wrong? Where are the log files so we can send them to you or just check them? I cannot find log file(s) in any of the default/recommended locations on my Mac.

I understand you give up from your free/EVE time to create this tool and benefit the community. I deeply admire this. However if you do something, please do it right. If you can't, then ask for help. We'll be glad to.

I absolutely agree with all of the above. Let me explain you why things aren't as they should and what we're doing to fixing it.

1) All the maintainers of pyfa have quit EVE for now. And I'm the only one left on it.
2) I'm currently working on other projects within evefit that also need attention.
3) We currently do not have a single mac maintainer, as such, those builds are completely untested. To fix this; I need someone with a mac to step up, join the #evefit channel and offer help

Keeping this in mind, here's whats currently happening:

  • A new engine is being made for pyfa that will require far less coding each time an expansion/patch is released (ideally, it'll require no coding at all and all the needed info will be taken from cache).
  • When that's done, a new gui will be built that is more easily portable, likely using Qt.
  • A new bugtracking system is being setup for all evefit projects, this is almost done and will be made public shortly.

This is basically why the current version of pyfa isn't getting much love at all.

On the logfile topic, if you start pyfa in command line mode it will print out stacktraces in that window.
I'd greatly appreciate getting that so I can fix the errors :)

On other news, I expect the sisi version of pyfa to be ready this weekend, CCP is changing around the format of some bulkdata tables to use the new yaml format. Which means it takes some extra work, a new cache reader lib had to be built (some of you might have seen the phobos project posted in the EVE technology lab, thats the one)

I found that the html exporter in pyfa got some issues with ships names that contain chars not listed in the ASCII spec and will crash the whole export plugin. The issue is really easy to fix and did it localy.

line ~90 @ exportHtml.py
- FILE.write(HTML);
+ FILE.write(HTML.encode('utf-8'));

This will encode the HTML stream to utf-8 with should be internet standard and will not give out errors when ships got chars other than ASCII. Works perfectly fine on my end.
