Just a quick dev blog and video update. It will hit sometime after the 19th of July as it's currently waiting approval (again) from CCP Unifex who is off on a well deserved break at the moment. That's the original dev blog tidied up to show where we are at right now and a video of a presentation we gave internally a couple of weeks ago that I edited into a twenty minute version that hits all the salient points about the gameplay prototype we made as well as showing us playing through it for about ten minutes. Sorry for the delay (again), it's out of my hands and I'll be banging down Unifex's door as soon as he gets back.

So Unifex don,t want to lose face does he ?
At fanfest he was stating it was all about spaceships
Must be difficult being on Team Avatar ,with so many Soons and promises

While playing "The Sims in Space (stations)" would add much to the game for some people, you still have to ask the big question... Why would one who is an immortal god-like being want to step out of his pod and risk getting murdered?

The little suite you get now to walk around in has some very cool eye candy that I wish was more interactive. But walking out that door into the station could be deadly.

Please give me a reason to do so.

1) Large quantities of ISK, once CCP adds ways of getting it.
2) New things to do
3a) Risk mitigation changes to the game , like no mechanic for getting murdered in high sec stations
3b) An implant that does the scan-on-death thing like a pod, just not as well; you lose 1000 skill points.
3c) Just before you leave the pod a slow non-destructive scan is made of your brain. If you die you wake up in a clone with as many SP as you had when you left the pod.

If CCP wants us to be able to leave CQ with safety, they just need to add a new device to the lore that makes it possible. After all technology marches on, progress is to be expected.

Also that one room has more floor space than my entire house, and I got a big house. Pace it off. Its HUGE. ( I'm including the corridor and balcony).

Get to the green light! Do it now! I am very much looking forward to this blog. Unifex, come out ,come out, where ever you are.

I gotta say I was kinda disappointed not to see Torfi at the Alliance tourney talking about this. I did miss some episodes though I need to catch up on. Thanks for all yalls hard work in trying to make this happen!

Im only including those places I can get to by walking.

Edit: But even if you just include the main room, I paced 18 steps from the mirror to the door of the Caldari CQ (45 feet) and 16 from the screen to the entrance to the walkway (40 feet): a total of 1800 sq ft. Lose some for the odd shape, maybe 1500 sq ft. Smaller than my house, but far larger than most any closet.

um...

here's what I would do.

Step 1: make a clone
Step 2: jump into clone
Step 3: leave pod clone in the pod training skills.
Step 4: go explore space wrecks/have a drink in station.
Step 5: sit down in the clone oven we have in the CQ *hint it's the bed look at it, it's an oven*
Step6: recycle cone used to explore, now back in pod, skills were still training the whole time

Why would i use my awesome piloting brain out of my ship?

1st off they shouldn't fail at WiS then. If they delievered a working product, like you've pointed out it would be great. All of the tech is done...

You are not hearing me. The tech isn't done. The project failed, they couldn't get it working. It isn't sitting there waiting for some switch to be thrown.

CCP screwed up the project, but that doesn't make them a bunch of morons. Do you think they didn't realise in advance that what they were about to deliver last year would be a shot in their own foot? So why did they do it? Because the project was dead, the management made the decision that they couldn't afford to continue hemoragging money and effort into the project anymore. That was the best line in the sand they could draw, then they disbanded the team and walked away. It took balls to make that decision, my only criticism is that it should have been made two years earlier instead of the decision to spend the next 18 months concentrating on WiS. But hindsight is wonderfully easy.

It is clear from the Dev comments in this thread that the 'WiS' project being worked on now is a completely new project still at the prototyping and evaluation stage. It is being linked to the name 'WiS' purely as part of the face saving exercise. It is also clear that the management aren't behind it yet. They had their fingers burnt once and aren't going to make any hasty decision on this one. Even the Dev with the most vested interest is saying 'At least 12 months IF we get the resources'.

To the people blaming the whinging of the bitter vets for killing off this project, you need to wake up and smell the roses. If you can't work out that CCP dumping massive resources into a project that failed didn't damage EVE, at the very least stagnate it for 18 months, then there is something wrong with you.

no the tech is done, there just is no design, and not enough art. we know the tech is done, we have CQ we can walk around it.

i was saying if they didn't fail in the 1st place, if WiS came out polished and not rushed, it wouldn't need more work, then everyone wouldn't care.

But the tech is done, it's being used for the video we are about to be given for the new WiS. it's not some new graphics engine, it's the same as CQ. So if they can do muliplayer shooting mission, they can finish the bar.

About "is the WiS tech done, or not", my understanding is alot of the in-station assets for establishments and the like are done. The issue came up when they tried to get multiple avatars on one computer screen at once. The code they had could not do it, except with the very highest end machine. But its the same issue they need to solve to make WoD work, so that team has been hammering away on the issue. No need to have a Eve Online team working on that part at the same time. Supposedly things are getting done, and maybe sometime we will get to see it.

I agree, I think the WoD game should be a beta for WiS. When that game comes out, WiS should come out for eve.

But it sounds like we are going to get multiple avatars sooner than later if this dev bog is a hit.

It seems most people aren't talking about this, but what about those good ol' establishments? I want a place to hang out with corp mates, friends, and/or random people. I was hoping to be able to gamble on one of the minigame tables, and generally socialize... I kind of thought it was going to be a coffee shop, not a theme park.

I usally write one of these and then change it a month later when I reread it and decide it sounds stupid.

I think the idea is they are going to build a sweet avatar gunplay muliplayer thing 1st. Plus they are using this same engine for WoD. The art is allready done check out the ps3 home space, its one of the establishments like you saw in the eve future trailer.

Once that's done, estabishments would be easy to put in.

I feel the more logical progression would be to create the multi-user environments, then the person to person combat... But whatever, at least work is being done on it...

You know that thing CCP Wrangler said; "EVE is a dark and harsh world, you're supposed to feel a bit worried and slightly angry when you log in, you're not supposed to feel like you're logging in to a happy, happy, fluffy, fluffy lala land filled with fun and adventures, that's what hello kitty online is for.".

This is why we're locked into a room, with no social interaction. We're supposed to be angry, bitter, hate, and hopefully go AFK or log off to reduce the load on the server.

AFK-cloaking in a system near you.
