In the past, there have been some policies in place within Customer Support that imposed additional rules onto the war mechanics available in game, such as the so called "Alliance Hopping" or the more recent "Dec Shield".

The decision has been made to lift those restrictions that affect war declarations, thereby opening up ways for corporations to avoid unwanted wars via methods that were previously considered exploits of game mechanics.

In other words:
If you can leave or declare a war, raise the costs for other entities to declare one to you or do any other war related things within current normal game mechanics, you may do so without having to keep other rules in mind.

They probably got tired of policing it, it at times could be too much of a judgement call to be seen as consistent.

I'm betting that this has something to do with the recent drama regarding EvE Uni, their "dec-shields," EN24, and too many questions being asked.

They're making public policy of something that has been going on unofficially for some time…

So they mean that now the only defense of a corporation composed of hapless noobs and seriously outnumbered vets, and which has been wardeced (trolled!) to death by every PvP thug in the universe, now is NOT against some unwritten rules?

Maybe this is because some big alliance decided to suicide gank ice miners in empire space, and this will allow them to war dec themselves with alts?

What a coincidence!

good.. while I don't think the current war-dec mechanics are proper, putting an arbitrary band-aid on the problem using metagame rules is very bad.

Theres far too much of this in this game already.
See: its an exploit to biomass yer guy after ganking with him to get a new guy to gank with becomes apparently allowed

This didn't make sense to me. Would someone rephrase or explain it please? Goons are ganking Mackraws but what does this meta game thing have to do with it?

Posts brought to first page:

This thread went really deep until someone necro'ed it.

Null sec real PVPers "Lulz at gankbears"
Low sec real PVPers "Gief moar tears!"
Worm hole people, "Dude? Wait. What?"
High sec bears "Yippie!"

The only ones sad about this are griefers and mercs. Privateers won't even go to WHs or low sec. Hmm ...

*** This looks like a great idea for forcing griefbears out into real PVP.

This is definitely a good move by CCP

Just re-iterating that I think this change is good. It gives people a defence against griefing and more freedom of choice.

Griefing is illegal... and enforced by CCP

Hi-sec wars aren't greifing.

And you can bet your last isk, war-decs are being looked at.

Depends on how you gauge griefing. In terms of the EULA and harassment it has to be very clear cut and extreme cases as CCP is a business. However, there are a lot of grey areas.

Griefing much like trolling is done when some pathetic little creature uses a mechanic in a game to deliberately sabotage the playing of another gamer with the purpose of obtaining an emotional response. They make no gain within the game and they usually feel a little more significant and in control of their screwed up lives. Sadly, since this all occurs in the game, it does nothing to fix the roots of their problems, so they continually perpetuate this activity in order to get another "fix."

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
