Pro wrestling of EVE and here as there there are stupid people that will pay to see it.

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

The general consensus amongst the uninformed is that Sony bought CCP last year.

If you object to bought kills/matches and opposing teams making some deals before the match so both reach the desired outcome, you're playing the wrong game or are just plainly naive - most likely both.

These things are pretty much some of the most distinct features of eve.

The shootout is just the eye-candy for newbs to watch - the outcome of fights and main bulk of the work is accomplished a long way before that if you're smart - be it in the alliance tourney or on TQ.

That's what makes it actually interesting.

According to Reddit, that Vindi pilot burned his guns out because he's terrible.

But, even if it was a fix, so? Bribery and Corruption are a celebrated part of the metagame.

CCP; I am very upset by this dishonorable metagame which has ruined my tournament experience.

I know CCP is a fair and reasonable compay, and I have NO doubt they will ban all of these scum bags from participation in future tournaments.

so much anger over this...

yeah we brought broadswords. internally it was a joke to begin with, but broadswords ended up beating all the cookie cutter cyclone/sleipnir variations, tengus, and after seeing the sudden popularity of vindis, naturally we skirmished against variations of the setup. despite the guy burning out his guns, the match for the most part went as it did in practice. vs two vindis, the first vindi would die right around the time the second broadsword popped. the remaining broadsword tanked with the help of tracking disruptors. eventually the vindi died…. aside from ecm teams, the dual vindi setup was the toughest to beat in our practices. BUT IT WAS BEATEN.

as for a game plan going into the match, if we encountered a vindi team, we would bring in all the ships and chew through the tank. plan changed when we saw how close we were to FEARLESS support ships and tried to pop them. they kited away and because of their damps we didn’t get all of our tracking disruptors on target until 30 seconds into the match. this made a big difference in comparison to our practices. that alone almost cost us the match. we got lucky with the vindi burning out his guns, but tbh, most the dmg from a solo vindi on a broadswords came in the form of drones. it just cant track with two TD's, despite the 90% web. dual web armor vindis posed a bigger threat in that regard, but it was ultimately easier to burn through their ehp.

As for metagaming and forcing FEARLESS into using a secondary pilot, that didn’t happen…. match wasn't thrown either. nulli is space poor. we're camped in 319 by a rather large band of mewling quims...

Seriously, this whole discussion is pretty ******* ignorant.

The teams competing put in a tremendous amount of effort, no matter what you see in the matches, there is a huge group effort going into every setup, and every pilot wants to succeed.

It's not 'just' about the shiny **** at the end, it's about a chance at out playing your opponent in so many different ways:
* Combat Piloting
* Intel gathering
* Market Manipulation
* Espionage
* Theory
* Teamwork
* Logistics
etc etc etc

To say that every second match is "Thrown" is complete bullshit. Just because Hydra and Outbreak ended up in the Final last year, and pissed it about, doesn't mean that every match there-after is a fixed game.

I can personally state that I wouldn't accept any amount of isk to compromise my team, and I'm sure that most the pilots on our team would be of the same mind. The rush of combat, the hours of painstaking work, the self-satisfaction from winning, are all so much more important than isk.

-

This is true of most the teams as well. Even if you see some silly 'Broadswords' or 'dual tanked machariels' or whatever, I'm sure the teams have put some time into thinking it up, testing it, and weighing up the odds of its success against their possible opponents (Well, with the exception of the dual tanked machs).

This isn't just a 'spectator' or 'CCP' event, this is for the alliances that want to compete. This is a test of what your alliances are capable of, regardless of size.

If teams want to throw matches, then fine. Though, I can guarantee, that those 'thrown' matches, are few, and far between.

All of these threads are so depressing, there is literally no positive discussion at all.

How is this ONE match CCP's fault at all? Firstly, its questionable if the match was even thrown, since there is even a photo of the vindi that burnt out his guns. (if anyone bothered to actually do any read up on the forums instead of crying).

Even if it was thrown, CCP has no control over that at all. Im not really sure how CCP F'd up at all...

Regarding other threads:

If you dont like the commentators/Ad's/Music - Mute them.
If you dont like the HUD - dont look at it - although it gives you a great insight into what is actually happening out there. (I personally think its awesome, good job CCP)

Regardless of individual circumstance, folks should realize it's all a sham. Hard to know what the angle is until after it comes out, but history tells us someone is cheating and in the end no real punishment will be dished out.

An account might get banned... not exactly hard to keep playing the game. People buy/start new chars all the time.

Or don't we remember last year and the finals?

Or rampant python injecting years prior?

T20? Ferrogel-factories? RMT? Bots? Orcas?

To try to accomplish anything of note in this game, you have to be prepared to cheat because everyone else at that level is. Individually, EVE players are pretty awesome, but the stakes are too high at the upper extremes not to cheat and CCP cannot police it and refuse to (admittedly understandably considering the subscription model) punish those benefitting from a cheater and not just the transgressor themselves.

The Alliance tournament has, what? A conservative 2 trillion in prizes between first and second place? Let's say a PLEX costs 1b. That's 2,000 PLEX. Lets say a PLEX costs U.S. $10. That's $20,000 and I think everyone can see this number is well under the real mark. Even in play/online money it's a lot and people will risk a lot and go to great lengths for it.

Because CCP allows this crap to slide on through time and time again you just KNOW someone is cheating. Whether collusion, crazy python locator agents, old-fashion skullduggery, CSM leaks, DEV leaks, someone has an unfair advantage so the show is just that. A show. A circus. Enjoy it for that and nothing else.

Of course I can't prove it. This stuff comes out after the fact, but it always comes out. The isk is already won and some ships CCP spent a few weeks in wages creating will be seen by 99.9% of EVE in a brief Garmon video and that's it.

Gee Gee CCP.

P.S. On the note of the ships, the economy is so whacked by poor decisions in the past (stagnant plexes, t2 bpos, incursions, sanctums, moongoo, bots, etc etc etc etc) why not just give the winners an isk printing machine and seed some of the bpos for these reward ships. Even if/when they settle at 1-5b each, at least they'll be seen in space from time to time (maybe). The current model is ******** (as in it is a handicapped idea). Or CCP could figure out some other way to seed them (invention 12 months down the line so it's unique for a period.. who knows).

Oh please, just because meta-gaming is a big part of EVE doesn't mean it has a place in a tournament that is supposed to showcase pvp skill.

The fact that CCP have already taken steps and made rules about collusion shows that they feel the same way.

I honestly can't stand the fact that some otherwise entertaining matches will grind to a halt in the last two minutes as teams barter in local in order to finesse the points system - if not the outcome of the fight entirely - to skew the rankings/progression of teams.

That's just not interesting to me, sorry.

First off, this thread is garbage. CCP can't control when people burn their guns out. That stuff happens. Have you ever flown in a tournament? Do you know what type of nerves are involved? The match wasn't necessarily thrown.

Now let me throw a scenario at you guys. Say my team brings something rather standard, a mix of sleipnirs frigs etc. We come up against someone with a cheese comp like double rattlesnakes where have zero chance of breaking their tanks. This is a very real situation that any team who practiced had to figure out a way around it. The only way for us to actually win a match is to kill their frigs and then stay out of bouncer range. If we want to win, that is our only option. So about 1:30 in to the match we've killed a few frigs and then we spend the next 8:30 kiting around the arena at 120km.

As a pilot in the tournament, we really don't have any other choice. We can't go in and brawl so we do what we have to do, and then do...nothing. It makes for terrible TV, to be sure, but we're in it to win.
