Yes yes troll away...

Goliath
High Slots 4 (3 strip miners and a siege/industrial core mod)
Mid Slots 4
Low Slots 3
RIgs 3

Cargo Hold 15km3
Ore Hold 150km3
Drone Bay 200m3
Drone Bandwidth 100

bonuses:
7% Mining Laser yield per level of Capital Mining Barge

CAptial SHip bonus 5% Shield Resistance per level

Role Bonus
200% bonus to Mining Laser Range and Yield while in Industrial Core mode.(siege mode) 5 minute Timer.

something along the lines i was thinking. making it siegeable means low and null sec miners can pulll double a hulks yield. But you risk your cap not being able to move.

Also as a side note it gives miners something to work towards once they get their hulks.. Unless you plan on moving to a fleet booster role your pretty much done at that point.

As a side note i cant stand mining.

This would make solo mining worth while. BUT your idea is broken since it would be only in low sec or zero space / wormholes. The other aspect is that it currently contradicts CCP's current plans where they are buffing the current mining barges.

Also, why the need for bigger space vacuums?

CCP has always wanted to push more people out to low and null sec...

And the mineral market plus something else for miners to work towards.

right now it takes 2 months to train into a hulk. after taht what do you train for? unless you are going fleet boosts or building you have nothing esle to train for?

this is to give miners a goal for after hulk

As a side note. As a PVper the thought of catching 2-3 of these in a belt sieged gives me a hard on

Well, the current goals for miners is to become a mining director after being a mining foreman. Blink Through either piloting the Orca or the Rorqual.

The problem I see with this is that it would have to almost require jump fuel to move.

Another question is its overall tank. What ships would it be able to tank? A capital mining barge sounds good but what would be able to kill it? Sounds like multiple battleships at least. Which is fine by me.

Would it be the only mining barge to field 5 large drones?

Yes it would use isotopes.

over tank would be something like a cap shield booster and 2 invuls. cap recharger

lows for me would be a dc2

i would think it would be the only one to be able to field ogres..

And the whoel well you go on to be a mining Director. A fleet only needs 1 of those. Point being for the line miner there is nothing after hulk.

Sounds fine. I would be curious how high the yield would be when boosted though. Might make it insanely like a space vacuum.

Meh, just give us mining fighter bombers.

I find it VERY odd how the same ideas/subjects are "independently" brought up in multiple places on the forum at almost exactly the same time.

Definitely not me. I have been kicking this idea around since last CSM election. Well this and the idea of something along the lines of an assault carrier. 2 capital turrets a capital energy nuet a siege module and 5 fighters specifically designed for super cap killing.

I dont THink people would like that idea though.

Okay, it's a 'capital', but how 'big' of a capital?

Titan, SuperCarrier, Carrier, Dread, Freighter, Jump Freighter, Rorqual or Orca sized? Something in-between?

Your OP leans towards Orca sized.

If you're going to make the ship sit for 5 minutes in seige, then it needs to be closer to Rorqual sized (IMO). Triple your ore hold / cargo give it a capital sized tank. No ship maintenance bay, no corp hangars.

What about rough #'s for EHP, Align times, etc., etc.. ?

this idea is a little wack, but has potential.

how i would see this is something like an orca, but not as big.

3-4 strippers, 3 mining links so 7 highs like logi command ships
some mids (5? for tank)
some lows (irrelevant)
better than standard battleship EHP (maybe 150-200k EHP...i know some bs gain that when tanked out and bonuses running, i am an incursion runner on the side)

cargo-400m3 (crystals and whatnot)
ore hold- 40k
corp hangar-30k (fittings, no ships)

abilities
7.5% to yield
5% to resistances
10% bonus to drone (gallente bonus)
docking platform for ship fitting changes
bonus to roid scan range
able to use gates as normal
(no tractor bonuses, no lasers range bonuses, no ore compression.... no jump drives.)

basically a larger hulk with the command ship bonuses. means if you are the primary miner, you wouldnt loose the output of your miner by being stuck to a POS boosting, you could stay in the field mining and STILL be supplying bonuses for the rest of the fleet. use the orca if you have the character to run it or as a giant hauler. this would keep the links up and going and not up and down all the time when its time to haul something. take this to worm hole space so you dont collapse the hole going in but still can provide bonuses.

so, not really a cap ship, but a field boosting command ship with drones for defense of the mining fleet and EHP to tank whatever rats (or smaller pvp fleet) come along until drones take em out or your fleet reships.
this could be a bit larger than a bs sized ship with an ugly sig radius. say 30% larger than a geddon.

but....with the changes in mining barges coming up soon, it maybe a little early to put this out. altho it could be a seperate entity in itself.

but think of this, with the new skiff EHP idea, and this idea..imagine a few of these in a null sec belt and getting jumped. they can defend long enough for drones to take out some invaders. give carebears some teeth....it would make low and null sec mining ALOT more fun.

Honestly was aiming for something inbetween an orca and a Rorq in size. Numbers were just to flesh out the idea.

I like some of where your going with this. The idea of sieging it is so they are able to be caught and killed. Not looking at a command boosting ship at all. WE have 2 other ships that do that quite well.

A capital type tank on it is fine. As i said something with the grid and cpu for miners and a capital shield booster

Also happened to find another post similar to that idea. What sounds great for killing things isnt great when you flesh it out on paper... Would just replace SUper blob with ships designed to Destroy Supers.
