In-Game Programming of Protocols

I think that CCP should implement a simple (not too simple) programming language in game. This language would be used by players, who choose to learn it, to write protocols for different situations. This seems more realistic of what ship life would look like in this point in time.

One benefit of this would be noobs could easily install advanced combat protocols on their ships while more experienced players would write their own or supplement a protocol with manual instructions. I think this could add a lot and bring more strategy into the game.

Another benefit would be automation of dull tasks like mining or trading. Protocol programmers could include audible and visual alerts that popup to players at chosen times. Maybe when the cargo hold of your ship reaches a certain point or a module completion cycle has finished.

I don't know, just an idea. I have many other ideas as to how this could be used and how it would be beneficial. What does the general population think? Are there any glaring flaws in this system that I am not seeing? Please include your reasoning and not just blunt unsubstantiated responses.

Also, I figured I should add this part onto it.

Protocols could be "packaged" after being programmed. This would allow for buying and selling of protocols! Some players would become famous for being able to write amazing protocols for different things....

Let the discussion commence :D

Ships could have fitting slots specifically for "Protocol Analyzers." These modules would read the protocols much like a a sensor disruptor module reads the scripts in-game now.

After a player programs a protocol, it could be packaged up and sealed. You could then manipulate it just like any other item in your item hangar. The protocols would only be bought and sold via contracts. Bugs would be all a part of the systems. So buying protocols from some no-name programmer could bring with it the expected risks. I'm liking the idea more and more....

Auto-piloting is in-game now....

A simple fix for removing botters could be to remove the ability to complete certain tasks that would require human interaction in real life. These could include "Docking", "Undocking", "Jumping"... maybe some more, but that would just about fix that problem in my opinion.

I think this would be sweet, its basically adding additional types of automated systems such as the auto pilot, but in a combat situation. I think with some slight revising so it not be overpowered and if you add in the skills, this could be a great idea.

Some skills might include:

Protocol Analyzer Operation: Allows for quicker execution of commands back to back. -5% time required in-between each command per level.

Protocol Comprehension: Allows for more robust protocols to be used (more lines of code). + 100% code limit for protocols per level.

Having time be required between each command would keep flying "the old fashioned way" more efficient. This gap could be closed somewhat with higher skills, but it would always be faster to do things manually.

Not helpful or constructive. Don't post if you don't have time to explain why you disagree with me. Help me understand why you are so against this idea please. This is a discussion, not a request for your approval....

You would be playing the game. You are missing my point.

The actions that would be automated would be simple ones. An automated action would always be less efficient than manually executed ones.

Important decisions would all still have to be made by players. The unimportant, mundane and dull ones are the ones that I would like to see the option for automation for. Like I said, manually doing them would always be more efficient.

This would both be more realistic for this time period and bring less annoying and twitch based combat to the table.

I like how you had your brother comment in order to give in-game sanctioned botting more credibility.

Just learn to PVP and you won't need "automated protocols" to turn on your point, prop mod, and guns for you.

Really really no.. The game needs more things that keep people at the keyboard, not more things that allow them to continue playing while they go beat one off over Jades avatars.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

This sounds suspiciously much like you want CCP to let you create a bot INSIDE EvE. Inside a game you're supposed to play, rather than use bots for. The only situation where using such can be recommended will be if you plan on unsubscribing and want to p*ss off some other miners before you're banned.
