I don't know if this idea would be best done at the drone level, the module level, or the ship level but here goes: what if drones had special abilities based by race (of the drone/mod/ship). For example gallente drones have an armor repper, caldri has shield resistance up, amarr have more armor resistance, and minmatar have either shield boosting or increased drone weapon RoF.

If done at the drone level, then the race's drones would me modified directly. If at the module level, maybe the items could be released via the LP stores of that race. If at the ship level, then every race would need a drone cruiser and it would have a role bonus built in.
