i've been doing a lot of probing lately, and had a thought that a saved preset of a probe pattern would be a nifty little feature. 3 or 5 preset shapes that the player can save when he has his probes layed out, to be formed again on the next deployment of probes with just a press of a button.

maybe worthless, i think it'd be swell.

It would make initial scan setup much faster, which is probably also the biggest argument against it. Smile Also, I think you just need one pattern -- pick the center point and deploy probes around it at half the scan range. Deploy probes C-N-E-U-S-W-D, don't know what you would do with the 8th probe. Maybe allow the user to set the deploy direction sequence above.

It would be nice, but quickly positioning probes is half the skill. Once you've got that down to a few seconds scanning systems takes only a few minutes. Especially with shift/alt.

Give that capacity to everyone with the click of a button, you'll have a lot more people scanning down systems a lot more quickly. Probably a bad thing for the people who are good at scanning already.
