Gas clouds as an option

I'm sure this has been brought up many times already, and if it hasn't it very well should have been. A common complaint in performance I've seen (and experience) is gas clouds. These beautiful objects wreak hell on otherwise reliable settings, forcing people to turn their settings down or zoom out very far. This is like the CQ issue where people could have it beautiful in space but then suffer terribly once they've eventually loaded CQ.

If not making these an option entirely, these objects need to respect LOD and when frame rate suffers they should either lower their complexity or stop rendering. These speed hurdles interrupt an otherwise fluid experience and induce rage in even users with better-than-average computers. This needs to go away.

My laptop can deal with alot of things, but somehow these volumetric frame traps always get me...

Devs have mentioned a few times that the clouds are ancient objects that haven't been updated in a long time, and that they're on the backlog to be replaced with something that'll run better.

The current ones remind me of the CS 1.5 smoke grenades.

1000x yes. I really do hate the fact that those stupid volumetric clouds will chug down even a decently good computer. It's just annoying trying to deal with them.
