So, its become a bit hard to come up with new and interesting ways of creating corp names and tickers.

The problem, is many ideas are taken by corporations that have 1 person in them, or that haven't logged in since 2008. (4 years ago...)

Would it at all be possible to set an expiration date on corporation names/tickers if they don't have at least one active member for over a year? Or something similar?

You wouldn't have to dissolve the corp, just change their name to evecorp some number, like they do now.

Didnt have a problem with my corp name, but I can see how it will be in the future.

Good idea.

Perhaps after the leader of that corporation has been inactive for over 1 year without anyone else that has the ability to manage the corporation, then that corporation will be dissolved and reset to a NPC corporation.

Eventually names will come down to adding numbers. What's the fun in that?

But what happens to the corp hanger?

Move all stuff to corp ceo hanger or does it just disappear?

Move it all to CEO hangar I guess. Or liquidate the assets and just get rid of the stuff. If no one in the corp has logged on in over a year then I don't think they will miss it.

Or, just leave the corp as is, and rename them to something generic. CCP already renames corps that have inappropriate names to "EVE corporation 324572938423" or some other long string of numbers. You could just do that since the name/ticker is the only real asset being denied to other people.

As the game ages these types of things are going to become problematic.

For corps with no active members: CCP fires off an email declaring the corp to dissolve in X days. Mail is sent to all members listed in corp roster.

If someone resubs before expiry, corp is saved.

If noone resubs before expiry, corp is dissolved. Corp hangar contents get dumped into a holding bay, and first person from roster to log in is able to claim it. Another email is sent from CCP to the corp roster informing first come first serve to this corp bay.
If noone resubs, it's just data stored on a server. If someone does, the first guy will probably claim the corp bay, and get it all.

Is this a proposal or are you saying they currently do this?

A proposal for a solution.

I have no idea how it is handled now...

I had no problem finding an excellent corp name.

Good for you, that doesn't at all address this issue.
