Overwatch module

Defensive module for anti-ganking. When activated will automatically fire/activate modules on any locked target which becomes GCC flagged.

So, when a Tornado shows up on grid with a miner, the escort ships locks up the 'nado and activates the overwatch. As soon as the 'nado fires, the escort immediately returns fire. BBird could maybe jam the target as well, preventing it from getting more than 1 round off.

Effects:
Gankers need to fit a little tank or ECCM, or look for unescorted ships
Miners need to find friends to escort
KM farm like a boss next time Burn Jita happens

Uhmm.....

A tornado shows up on grid... and you lock them... Why do you need a module to activate your weapons on them when they go GCC? Cant you just activate your weapons when they go GCC by pressing the appropriate hotkey???

A tornado is only going to get one shot off anyway.

Just saying.

Other threads had indicated a ~20sec response time for CONCORD, which... is half the 40s rate-of-fire for a 1400mm arty. True 'nuff. I was trying to theorycraft a solution for the situation where your attacker is on-grid with you but there's nothing an escort can do without getting Concordokken themselves. This idea doesn't seem to fit the bill.

Your idea works perfectly well with thrasher ganks, or any DPS ganks. Just not with alpha strikes.

The problem is a black bird could already do this, miners just don't bother to use them. One blackbird could easily keep watch over an entire belt, sensor boost it to hell and even an AC thrasher won't get off more than one round.

And if you're worried about the blackbird getting ganked, hell use a falcon or an over-tanked scorpion. Miners just don't use them, I honestly don't understand why. Its only one person who needs to remain at the keyboard, the rest of their fleet can still bot/macro to their hearts content.

It bemuses me.

Last time I went out and measured it the concord response times are:

20 seconds for 0.5
18 seconds for 0.6
16 seconds for 0.7

This time occasionally deviates by 1 second, very rarely 2 seconds. Also, if concord has NOT been spawned in system before the gank, concord will arrive 6 seconds early.

As for the solution... how do you protect a ship from being suicide ganked when you can't fire first?

Step 1.) The to-be-ganked ship must fit enough tank to survive an alpha shot:
A tornado outputs ~14k per shot, but a really solid hit may go as high as 18k.

Step 2.) Jam out the aggressor until concord saves the day. (or rep up you're escortee).

I say we should just have a middle-sec where CONCORD is weaker but you can help them fight off your attacker and they won't ditch you. But the highsec ones will still require you to stay passive.

So for SOME people, middle-sec would be SAFER. For everyone else, there's highsec. Also would provide some stepping stones for entry into lowsec.

What do you think?

Remove CONCORD from 0.5, replace with faction navy. There's your middle-sec.

Hadn't even thought of reps... Just realized a single AFK scimi could probably defeat a good sized DPS gank.

And yes, as others have indicated, module isn't needed. Idea was to reduce the "reaction time" component so that attacker is unlikely to get off a 2nd shot. Main problem being that escorting miners is even more boring than mining, and attention is likely to wander...
