Good post Hillmar,
Takes a lot to stand up amidst us all and say you were wrong. This post is a good start. I am looking forward to seeing the actions to underscore the sincere words.

Well, that post certainly touched me, but I can't help thinking "I hope this was not designed to touch me, and that this is sincere."
Still, it looks like some lessons were learned at least, let's hope they're not forgotten.

As for the changes to priorities: I can understand that this is nescesarry and while I even welcome some changes being made, I'm still a bit dissappointed that the deployment of Incarna is postponed yet again (a phrase containing the words "broken promise, again, RPers get the short end, yet again" pops into my head), as it's THE thing I've been looking most forward to ever since I started playing, but seeing as I've been waiting for it for over 3 years now, I guess I can wait a little longer for the sake of EVE's future.

-Peace

It's about ******* time!

I kept reading and thinking, holy ****! you pointed out the elephants in the room,

I went month to month and was on the verge of quitting again, for this I shall hang around.

HIlmar you were harder on the stupidness in Incarna than I was, I have hope.

Always ... Never ... Forget to check your references.   Peace out Zulu! Hope you land well!

HIlmar,

As a player of going on 7 years, I salute the honesty and candor of your letter. It was exactly what I needed to hear to restore my faith in your company.

Thank you for refocusing on what makes your product so damn good.

With much respect,

No other games developer would be this honest to their fans. This is why I will always be a CCP customer. 2003-present, and into the future as far as i can forsee.

Thanks Hilmar, thanks CCP.

Yeah, I will admit it ...( With an ALT ) ... I shed a man tear or two reading Hilmar's letter.

That is the blog I was looking for. Respect to Hilmar, I'm sure it wasn't easy or fun to compose.

I don't doubt now going forward CCP will far surpass all the previous achievements we so fondly remember.

Zulu's blog is also well written and informative - exactly what was needed. So who's been helping him? Guard? Torfi? The CSM? Blink

Awesome. This is a huge step in the right direction. Thank you for soul searching Hilmar, I think I speak for everybody here when I say that it really means a lot to us all.

Also, pragmatism is win.

Hello everyone,

Here's my storyline...

I'm a old player that was there in the ages of the begining... times where we were glad to have a Battleship .... yes mates...

I left the game for about 4 year... from 2006 to 2010... while you guys were arguying about everything that CCP was trying to make and deliver.. i was "offline"....

My return last year.... was a chock...

I was chocked of how people were not playing but abusing the game systems... all for what ??

M. Hilmar, being my self a owner of cie... i think it is IMPOSSIBLE to stay always on the good path... you have to go offroad to know where route is.

For me.. i will not LEAVE EVE, not after i've seen how much this game has evolved compare to others MMO.

Today i'm just trying to catch up with all that happend since then.

I know old players.. and they still like the game for what it is...

I think EVE is one of the most "evolving" MMO that i've played so far... and i can tell you i've played a bunch of them.

SO old players, new players... get your computer tuned up.. and gear up for the next generation that CCP is going to deliver to US

Like we used to say.... 07 fly safe Capsuleers

As a long standing client, who has been with this software product since 2004 i have also recived a verry personal insult - one of my dearest friends who was a director in our corporation got hacked, hes account was stolen, through that all the assets we collected for years got stolen. We reported it, luckely in time (unlock votes on bpo's were still running) and averted fatal damage, then, since no valid game mechanics nor player mistakes were involved in the hack we were expecting a support from CCP in restoring mentioned items - what we got was minor restoration of corporate wallets and some throwdown money + lot of excuses how nothing can be done since it is our fault. A personal letter was written to you and sent by my dearest friend who was the victim of the hack, you my dear sir never had the care to even let the secretary to replay to that letter, not to mention yourself - a grave dissapointment that caused cancellation of several accounts, loss of all respect and interest in this product. You could of easely restored the items from backup or just thrown us a bone and just wired us some reasonable amount of isk that we could of used to recover, but we did recive a clear sign on CCP attitude toward a client - "hey bad things happen, it is your recponcibility and your fault". For a software product that focuses on "real value" of a loss this is a bad attitude for external attack, if it was corp theft - so be it, i would accept it as valid point and loss, but external hack has nothing valid about it.

What usually happens on a hacked account is:

Hacker tries to sell everything he can get his hands on asap at whatever price possible, then transfers the ISK to other characters (to be ultimately used in RMT); CCP recovers whatever ISK possible and wires it back to you; you are angry because you got much less than you think your items were worth.

Maybe not the best solution from your POV but the only reasonable approach (that I am aware of).

Consider that the hacker may have reprocessed ships/modules, sold the minerals on the market, the new owner may have hauled them to a trade hub and sold them to an industrialist, the industrialist used them to build ships, the ships got blown up into salvage and insurance payments, ...

How deep would you want CCP to revert these transactions? What do you think would the uncertainty created through such reversals do to commerce inside EVE ("Somebody just sold me some faction items really cheap... now I'll have to wait a few weeks to be sure that CCP won't revert this transaction because it might have been caused by some hacker"?)

The only "items" for which CCP reverts transactions are characters and even then it is a considerable nuisance and uncertainty for everyone involved (though luckily firesales of "stolen" characters are often easy to spot and avoid).

The alternative would be to just spawn new items to replace your loss, effectively duplicating your friend's inventory.
This would break the sandbox and would be heavily exploitable (as would be spawning some ISK as extra compensation for you). After all it is really easy to "hack" your own account to duplicate any rare items you might have on it.
"Oh my account was hacked and my character's Opux Luxury Yacht was firesold by the ebil hacker to some alt of my best friend - now CCP will spawn a new Yacht to replace my loss and everybody is really happy \o/"

If you have any proposal how to handle such situations that is better than CCP's current way of doing things and not heavily exploitable or sandbox-breaking I would honestly like to hear about it.
I have seen your complaint quite a few times during my time in EVE but I have never seen a satisfying solution that would work...

I never expected a message like this. It's the best thing I've read from CCP in a long time. If this new direction is real, Eve is back on the 'right' path (or at least the path that we selfish customers want).

Bravo.
