Go forth and conquer CCP; with Emperor Hilmar listening to his nation once more to not tax the morale of the population: the farthest star is not a problem.

At the end of the day, we want the game to be as great as you say it could be. It is why we as a community are so passionate about the game itself.

Love is hard work.

Thank you very much for apologising, much lost faith has been restored, certainly on my part. Not all of it, since there is a long hard way to go with balancing the game and fixing issues above and beyond Incarna.

We as a community appreciate it.

Dear mr Hilmar.

CCP has dissapointed year after year. Many features of the game are gimmicks that will drive people nuts (POS, PI) - they are unjustly limited forcing investment of too much time and labour into something that should be enjoyable as ENTERTAINMENT. And these are just 2 technology parts.

For years CCP has been focused on adding stuff instead of listening to community for advice on how to fix the basis of elements already in the universe. For example, you introduced rigs, but community still lacks a solid ship for transporting assambled rigged ships across distances, and i mean solid way, carriers, motherships and other small things are way too limited to do anithing meaningful.
A sample of how you twist mechanics instead of finding a better solution - freighters got cargo nerfed to avoid people moving capital ships in them - so instead of finding a better solution to stop moving capitals you implemented quick and dirty "fix" that suited your developers and not the clients, and there are many of such "hacks".

As a long standing client, who has been with this software product since 2004 i have also recived a verry personal insult - one of my dearest friends who was a director in our corporation got hacked, hes account was stolen, through that all the assets we collected for years got stolen. We reported it, luckely in time (unlock votes on bpo's were still running) and averted fatal damage, then, since no valid game mechanics nor player mistakes were involved in the hack we were expecting a support from CCP in restoring mentioned items - what we got was minor restoration of corporate wallets and some throwdown money + lot of excuses how nothing can be done since it is our fault. A personal letter was written to you and sent by my dearest friend who was the victim of the hack, you my dear sir never had the care to even let the secretary to replay to that letter, not to mention yourself - a grave dissapointment that caused cancellation of several accounts, loss of all respect and interest in this product. You could of easely restored the items from backup or just thrown us a bone and just wired us some reasonable amount of isk that we could of used to recover, but we did recive a clear sign on CCP attitude toward a client - "hey bad things happen, it is your recponcibility and your fault". For a software product that focuses on "real value" of a loss this is a bad attitude for external attack, if it was corp theft - so be it, i would accept it as valid point and loss, but external hack has nothing valid about it.

Why am i still here ? For one i am a sucker for David Brabens Elite, something EVE reminds me a lot of and i still see the potential in it but well, technically i am not, since i have skills to back myself with isk i can keep the account running indeffinetly, no matter if i play or not, guess for you it means you still have a "paying customer", even if this customer only interacts with the system on limited scale. And quess i will keep doing it untill i get over my last hopes and "built in habit" - or there is a remote chance that CCP has got the point from rage that was unleashed during the summer - only time will tell.

So heres one of the "bitter vets" signing off after the flame post.

Hi Hellmar,
First of all I would like to thank you for your sincerity, and the whole community for the past (almost) 8 years. It's been a great time to play eve, and watch it evolve.

I would like to call your attention to this matter:

Quote:
Though the introduction was clearly flawed, our plans for virtual goods are intended to make your playing experience better, not to disrupt it. From a strategic perspective, we had to take these first steps because monthly subscriptions are increasingly becoming a thing of the past. The culture of online gaming is changing, just as the notion of digital ownership did with music. If we don’t evolve our technology, our game design and our revenue model, then we risk obsolescence, and we just can’t allow that to happen to EVE or to our community.

If your bet is into changing the billing system, I must say think very carefully before taking any measures.
One of the things I like about eve is the triage there is due to it being a payed game. I believe changing this could mean risking the whole community and market. I also have kept a close eye on other games, such as World of Tanks or EA's Battlefield Heroes, games where you don't have to have a subscription but are given advantage by purchasing items, and I tell you, those are the kind of games you play for a bit, you buy a couple items, and you get bored. Eve on the other hand, gets you keeping coming, even if its only to change a simple skill. An hybrid solution would also be a fail, has a subscription is already an heavy load to bear just for gaming.

To sum up, I advise you to be very caution on this subject, has this is indeed delicate matter that may dictate the future of this wonderful game.

Best regards from sunny south Portugal,

algo

Whew. I have to say I'm impressed. Hilmar, I admire courage in a person, and in this day and age of corp-think it was courageous of you to be so honest. As Serene said, God bless you for it. All the best to you.

Keep it between the ditches, bud.

Thank you for your honesty, Hellmar. It's definitely what I needed to here to start restoring confidence in CCP. Looking forward to the winter expansion's new content, and hoping that many unfinished features get some love. You're back on the right track now, stay the course CCP!

Well written Mr Pétursson. Now hold on to those thoughts and keep that focus. "Raising the bar" doesn't always have to be about doing new stuff.... it can be doing the current stuff better.

For once I'm really looking forward to the future of EVE....

What you said is great, it makes me hopeful for the future.

However Hope is all we have. I truly, do hope that everything you said is true. Because if it isn't we will know, sooner then later. Regardless however, I have Hope, and that my friend is more important then anything. Something I can say I didn't have for EVE a few weeks ago.

Good luck, and if you need me as a player to weigh in one-day on something I will.

Ok So Basically you know and admit that me (in my emo raging posts) and some other loyal to eve followers are right and you are wrong... great... that should keep some of us paying for another 2 or 3 months of game time in the hope for some "player loven changes" to take place....

Super cool now that you know you screwed up and since you care so much about the players... (yeah right sucking every lil bit of money from them not so important) do the following:

- get back in the 90 day GTC's,
- seed eve with another 5k or so null sec systems,
- setup a real bounty hunter's office/profession (maybe npc corp for every faction)
- add motherships
- add a cap or sub cap that will help small corps (20 dudes or so) to live in null sec on their own roaming the 0.0's as nomads,
- reseed the moons,
- add more ships and weapon types,
- CHECK THE GM's FOR ABUSE.. I PERSONALLY KNOW 3 CASES IN WHICH THE GM's ACTED LIKE WHORES AND WITH ALL THE PETITIONING NOTHING HAPPEN LEADING TO A m8 OF MINE TO QUIT EVE. (Or formup a team that will be in charge of keeping the gm's in line)
- STOP ADDING SO MUCH **** IN EVE WITHOUT KEEPING PASSE WITH THE BUGS THAT COME WITH IT. (there so many bugs with the latest patches thats not even funny). Leme show you 3 of them:
1) after undocking even know the 1 min session timer is over sometimes i get more session change notifications when trying to jump a gate. longest one was 2min something.. This bug is old news now and yet nothing seems to be done about it.
2) windows... windows.... they jump arround the screen when clicking something, the stacking doesent work properly... they stack w/e they want to and when... again nothing been done about it...
3) speed indicator... still gets stuck yes.... been fixed so many times people stop bothering to report....

Those are just 3 bugs that you can see in like 5 min of playing eve... there's many more and more been added with every patch but you simply don't take 5min break from filling eve with **** to simply FIX SOME BUGS.

So yeah overall I think that the blog from "eve guy in charge" is nothing but a "please stay with us for another 6 months and you will see it's gonna get better I beg you" blog. For real I think CCP tasted money and for that reason eve will never be the way it once was.. fun.

Just to prove what I just said think of this: People been crying for ship paint jobs and corp logos for years... what did CCP said when those will be introduced??? They gonna be under the vanity products. That basically means if you wanna have some fun flying a black ship with a pirate skull on it, pay CCP a plex or 2 or w/e... more monety to CCP... whats todays plex price??? 400mill you say???....

That's what CCP is doing and they know it. This blog is just smoke in the eyeballs another attempt to make old guys think of eve the way it once was... remember I WAS THERE?? ... same deal only now they stick it from behind....

Apology accepted.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, I don't want CCP to be discouraged about phased rollouts. The phased rollout of Tyrannis was one of the most stable rollouts in all of EVE history, which was amazing!

The issue with Incarna was/is:
1) CCP has a history of not following through on commitments to iterate upon released content. Once content makes it to TQ, it essentially remains completely and totally unchanged for the rest of eternity. EVEN PI's "iteration" was really lackluster. It polished up a few features here and there, but the fundamental core of PI remained unimproved. No pollution, no intraplanetary interaction of any kind (trading or otherwise), etc...
2) CCP's lack of common sense regarding multiple account-users. You ENCOURAGE multiple accounts with your Power of Two deal, for crying out loud!
3) Lack of clear communication.

Now this is "Fearless".

+rep Hilmar. It takes a big man to admit he's made a mistake, let alone publicly for the whole internet to see.

This is a huge, huge step forward. I feel less bitter already.
