This should be better this week.

For your info, the issue is client side. I have tested the unified inventory on 2 different machines.

on a low end computer (lets say, a laptop that is aprox 3 years old by now) the inventory really lacks performace for viewing large containers, moving a large amount of items, trading items, loading the main inventory screen (I have mentioned this in a previous post and I don't like to post a link since I am lazy)

If you are using a high end computer (lets say, I7 920 bla with a lot of specs), you will noticed that the inventory screen does not lag that much.

If your developers are all running a high end cpu (which I think this is the case), improvements wouldn't really matter much imho since a developer on a high end CPU wouldn't notice a fraction of a millisecond by making changes.

There are some things that apparently constantly refresh / check / whatever the items in the UI making it sluggish as hell. With the previous inventory system this was never the case.

I would like to congratulate CCP on getting this thing under control enough to get my mining workflow back to mostly normal. I am still dealing with a lack of right click options on my orca, having to instead open all of my bays from 3 different locations... The windows remembering themselves is making this tolerable. The shift+click nonsense is still frustrating me, and I really really really wish you guys would abandon it altogether for more conventional methods, like double click. I am looking forward to more fixes and I dearly hope that my concerns are among them.

oh yeah; and tabs!

Yeah, we'll make it easier to use. Added to what you're talking about, we're looking at adding bays to the neocom, so if you drag the drone bay to the neocom, you can access it from there when it's available, it's kind of cool. Anyway, on it Big smile

See, thats the kind of cool and helpfull stuff that could have made that whole inventory thingy win to begin with :P
Now only adress the shift+click madness and lots of people will be happy....

Seeing a few pretty nasty, entitled attitudes in this thread. CCP seem to be well aware of the problems, why not take a leaf out of that other fellow's book and take a break from the game for a while if you really do feel you can't live with the new inventory? I expect the majority of the complaints will be resolved inside the month, given the amount of feedback they've received!

For what it's worth, I've adjusted pretty rapidly to the new inventory. It still has problems - 'click heavy' is an unfortunately accurate descriptor that should be far removed from any good UI - although I am liking it for the purposes of tower management and it has resulted in the ability to rename POS structures - something those of us living in real space have wanted for a very long time.

As I said, I don't like how click-heavy the new UI is. That's pretty much it. CCP have resolved most of the qualms I had with the new system in their barrage of patching over the past week, as well as being receptive to feedback... granted, this feedback was available to them during the testing stage, but for some reason, they overlooked it.

Fair enough, mistakes happen.

They're putting the work in now to make up for it, but the new system is certainly very functional at this point. I'm looking forward to seeing it after a few rounds of tweaking and shaping.

I do hope I've given some fair representation to those of us who aren't up in arms about the unified inventory! Keep at it, CCP.

Nice CCP!!!!

Bigger updates is a good thing to do, and I bet all industrial players and Industrial killers are hoping for that promised INDUSTRIAL update, with comets, planetary rings with T2 Materials, and maybe some "tesselation". Also maybe some POS revamps, and some ships balancing...

Although don't forget about the dev blogs we all love them, and we like to have this feeling of "Nice things are coming, I will never stop playing EVE" !!!

WiS Devblog? Sounds ace - really wanna read that :) .

Was to be published on May 29th, but UI stuff has been taking away publishing slots.

This is not the reason. We honestly thought we were ready.

Not meant to be harsh, but you as a company honestly achieved that conviction by actively ignoring what every player was saying about it for a month.

It begs to wonder how does community management work -or is supposed to work- together with everyone else.

You're right. It's not like we pay them or anything. I shouldn't really expect working features from a free to play game I guess.

The main thing to remember is that this is the right direction. Yes, they messed up the release a bit, it wasn't ready and they should have known that. However the old inventory system is pretty terrible, so once they get the issues and limitations with the new system worked out, it will be a net gain, and thats good for everyone.

Sure as hell beats being completely ignored for 2 years. The interface as a whole is pretty horrendous, so I am VERY pleased that they are working on it.

The new system is probably also easier to maintain and expand on internally, so hopefully it will set the stage for other improvements like ACL's for rights management of containers/hangers/arrays, and eventually a POS redo.

I love how people act as if CCP is "sticking it to them."

Sure, the new inventory has its issues, but they're being worked on. That aside though, I'm failing to see how development effort on their part equates to conspiracy, whether you like the results or not.

Obviously, they're putting in work hours to spite you.

No, it wasn't.

It wasn't pretty, and yes it was clunky, especially when moving lots of objects, but it was functional

Being functional is very, very important.

This current version of UI is an absolute pain to work with for day to day things due to the fact it doesn't support multiple windows, it's rather non-functional in my eyes.

To me, the perfect happy medium is using the Unified Inventory and it's sidebar of goodness, with having old style windows for the ship hanger in station, wrecks, ship cargo hold and other ship bays.

Did you read the last dev blogs? Sadly there is no more turning back on this....
This update was really needed... because CCP plans on changing other parts of the game that depends on this... Like the whole POS system... It is all part of a bigger plan... have some faith

SCRUM?

Is there ANY other company with this combination? :P
Hehe, i think you are doing great, i dont know how it must be like to work with 9 year old code.

Do problems like this mess up your Scrum Sprints?

Thanks for the update.

Please, pretty please, can you also make it is that when I type something in the search field for a corp hangar/section, it STAYS there when I change sections? It's so freaking annoying to have to type in the search term in every single corp hangar.

PS: I can't help but chuckle at your naming convention. Given the uproar your newest UI "Improvements" have stirred, may I recommend you move to the Tropical Cyclone naming scheme: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml

Hey CCP Soundwave (or any other CCP wants to try),

When I drop item in to another Corperation Corperation Hanager Array, in say the first division it just gives me this error "You have been denied access for the following reason: This office does not belong to your corporation." Yes it is another Corporation PoS structured but before the new UI system we could still drop in. The function needs to be restored or improved.

I keep missing the thread shift and these seems to be on deaf ear.

I notice that wreck windows (if you set them as separate) still don't close automatically once looted and remain as a replicated inventory window. Is that going to go?

I would suggest that the inventory window has a setting button (much like the overview settings) that can be configured with what they show per window, states, containers, cost, icons or list view, etc etc,

If you're resolved to keeping unifubared inventory then maybe providing us with a tool such as that, we can tweak it to how we want to use it so you don't have to go down the one size fits all route....

By the way Soundwave, I know I come across as a moaning git about unifubared. My opinion is that it was never ready for release, it still isn't, the actual design concept is flawed at a structural level and I'll never, ever like it as much as the old one. The old one worked and wasn't broken. I'm British, moaning is a sport here. I am still going to jab at you with pointy sticks when I think you've screwed up and should try again

That said, I appreciate that you guys are trying to fix it and that you in particular seem to be actively working on it. I'm confident you'll get it working to a point where I don't want to throw my mouse at the screen any more. It's just that the game has been for me at least, virtually unplayable since Inferno came out because of this debacle. I usually log on 10 to 16 hours a week, I've barely played more than 4 in the last fortnight. I've tried but after 10 minutes to check out the fixes, I've had to log off and make a cup of tea to calm down. It is getting better. I'm just frustrated that all our feedback on Sisi saying that this was going to happen if this hit TQ was totally and completely ignored.

I'm not going ask you to promise that it won't happen again but can you at least say that if enough people on Sisi tell you that something isn't ready for TQ, you actually take a little more notice next time and not be so fixated on the shiney if its not what we want?

Pretty please...
