Any solution for CQ frying your gfx card yet?

I already has contact with the support but unfortunetly they were unable to help me. Maybe the community can give me a hint.

I have Phenom X4 955 3.2 GHz with a Geforce GTX 460 and CQ makes my gfx fan go crazy. Within 30 secs the fans have to up to 80%-90% of max speed in order to keep the gfx card cool.

I have built this gaming rig myself with good ventilation in mind. While the gfx cooler is the stock Gainward one, the CPU, tower and motherboard ones are aftermarket solutions. I can play all current gen games on high settings without running into these kind of problems. I regularly play other games which produce a constant high load on the gfx card (i.e. MWLL mod for Crysis) and have no such problems there.

I am also very curious why the performance of CQ is so bad. I average between 40-45 fps (max details) depending on where I stand. Neither the CQ architecture nor the texture looks rather taxing and to my knowledge there is nothing going on in the background (i.e. complex physics or A.I. simulation, real time interaction with other player characters etc.). So what is done with all these computing cycles which generate these tremendous amounts of heat?

I already try to play around with the settings and tested out driver version 280.26, 275.33 and 270.61. Makes no difference at all.

I do know that I can simply turn off CQ as it does not serve any useful purpose at the moment but I simply do not wish too. If CCP thinks they had to burn their dev ressource on this feature in spite of more pressing issues I at least want to use it.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

no CCP cannot help you. and nobody here can help you either. I had the exact problem... guess what.... the card does die lol. I suggest you keep CQ off if you're running it idle or just running it for too long... the card's life is stressed way out to the point of failure.

If anyone has a radeon, (or when OP gets a replacement), execute the catalyst control center, you can run CQ on a overclocked card and monitor/control the fan, have better influence on temperature but you better know for sure what you're doing if you do this...or wreck another card.

The only work around is when CCP fixes their coding and game themselves. Nobody knows when they'll have it fixed, and the devs seem to keep there mouths zipped about it.... maybe because it's an embarrassment and lousy coding.

Graphics performance of Eve is so abysmal I believe 50 monkeys put in a room for 24h could do better.

No, seriously.

It’s gone now but for a short time we were able to test the old hanger view (ship spinning) on SiSi and my poor little laptop heaved one big sigh of relief. Temps were back to normal and the game was playable again.

When will it come to TQ, Soon ™ would be anyone’s guess, but the sooner the better for everyone, we will then all have a choice, hanger, door, or CQ’s and the new Gallente CQ is awesome, just needs something to do in it now Big smile.

After an extensive google search and reading multiple, at times very strange, theories about the issues I came to the conclusion that the physics simulation is esspecially taxing on my NVidia GPU. Deactivating the clothes and hair physic simulation makes a noticeable difference iin heat generation while playing around with the gfx options makes no difference at all.

The heat generation without physics simulation is still inacceptable as it forces the fan speed from 80-90% (with physics sim) before to 65-80% (without physics sim).

Making sure you have adequate ventilation in your PC is paramount. Myself, I run 3 x GTX260's in Tri-SLI and CQ (with full effects) never pushes the cards over 60degrees (that's trying with just the one card enabled - all 3 running & they still merrily tick along at around 55-60degrees).

Even now, there's only game that really taxes my cards and that is the Crysis™ series (with max settings & everything enabled). This will see all cards run at max 80degress and fans usually go to 100% but depending on complexity of the scene! They stay at that extreme for maybe a minute or two then settle back down.

If you're brave (and know what you're doing!), remove the casing from the cards, remove any fans & gently prise the heat sinks off the GPU & memory modules. Give them a good clean & apply some fresh thermal paste.

That alone will bring down the GPU temp. And remember to clear all the dust (and anything else!) from the PC, especially the fans.

Not running the card at the optimal resolution can also push up the heat (strange I know!)

Insufficient contacts where paste has broken down, Poor Ventilation & large quantities of dust build-up will eventually kill your Card/s! This is also true with the motherboard, memory modules and CPU which if not sufficiently cooled will leak heat to other installed hardware

These are the basics. When / If they've been checked (& done) and you're still generating too much heat, then it's time to start looking at other options / solutions.

Hope that helps.

I was able to rectify the problem by installing an aftermarket cooler onto the gfx card. While the noise level is now acceptable thanks to the better cooler, CQ still puts the greatest heat strain ony my system.

Games like Crysis and the Witcher 2 do not produce as much heat as CQ while giving a much better visual experience.
The performance is still crap, no more than 45 fps at max details for while walking in an non interactive closet?

vsync to 30fps. You won't see a difference between 30 and higher FPS in a MMO like eve anyway.
i have a GTX295 which is quite old already and it runs OK.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
