Lots of ad targeting services aren't that good and target you to Eve because you've shown some interest in it, but they have no idea that you've already signed up. Plus CCP is desperate for new subscribers to replace the people that the game is constantly losing. CCP is basically giving away subscriptions in order to continue to claim the game is growing. People logging onto the game is in decline and has been for a couple of years now. So without the aggressive new subscription campaign the universe would be even emptier than it is.

Just because people logging in is in decline, doesn't automatically mean that subscriber numbers are also in decline. I only logged in 4 or 5 times last year to change a skill, but I was still subscribed.

Not sure what is up lately, but I am seeing eve online ads on almost every website that I visit. Anyone else noticing this as well? They must be spending a fortune trying to recruit people already paying for a subscription.

That's just google accessing a cookie and showing you ad's it thinks is relevant to you. Do some searches for other type products and you will start to see ad's for those on pages you visit. Also it's other places advertising 'eve' as you can be an affiliate for eve.

This has been happening to me for years. It's targeted advertising like the other guys mentioned.

hate to break it to you but it's an ad following you around.

most banners will have an options icon you can click to tell it that you don't want to see the last product you looked at show up on every website you visit

There gona need a lot of ads to replace the normal people kicked out by goonswarm.

It is not Goonswarm they are just the middle men, its the people flying Exhumers that are at fault for the hulk and mackinaw deaths in Hi-sec.

Damn mackinaw guys.

First they always go in these very easily found belts.
Second, they just refuse to tank their mack to 32k EHP.

They really suck. They should at least fit and use one of the many advertised ice mining Rokhs. Shocked

I'm also seeing them everywhere.

Not sure if it's a cookie that's triggering them or what.

But I think they should be placed on sites that contain content for other sci-fi/space games/MMOs.

E.G., sites that contain articles/reviews/content about Anarchy Online, SW:TOR, Sins of a Solar Empire, Starcraft, Halo, Mass Effect, etc. should be targeted for EVE ads.

Whenever you start visiting this site you'll start noticing them more often wherever you go. Someone asked why you would advertise to a customer you already have, but they have to work on customer retention. For example, in my case, I'm off and on. I just reupped because I saw an ad and thought, oh hey, wonder how that game is doing. And here I am.

So close...

It's targeted advertising. Somebody somewhere knows you either play Eve Online or are interested in it. You get advertised to specifically to your interests....

Therefore you will see way more Eve Online ads than the typical person would.

Are people honestly THIS ignorant about targeted advertising still? It's been going on in the television industry for decades. Adverts for kids stuff during the hours when kids will be watching TV, adverts for holiday breaks for the parents at times when kids are in bed.

When it comes to the internet, Google keeps track of websites that you visit. They then sell that information on to businesses who then pay Google to advertise their product. Google then check to see what kind of websites you visit and from there, they insert the adverts that the companies have paid for. Thus if you are a fan of motor-sports and visit a lot of motor-sports websites, you will be more likely to see Google ads for motor vehicle products and or services.

And that, my friend, is why you see adverts for EVE. Not because you are special snowflake number one, but because Google knows that you come here frequently. Hope that clears a few things up. Though I doubt it.

to people being lazy trying to track you, you can cover your tracks. against the internet, you really can't, it's actually a little scary how much you are tracked without you knowing.
